The star AWPer has been benched following an underwhelming run of form and a series of disappointing results.

G2 have placed Kenny "⁠kennyS⁠" Schrub on the bench and brought Audric "⁠JACKZ⁠" Jug back into the main roster, the organization has announced.

The move comes after the team endured a string of underwhelming placings in late 2020 and early 2021, which saw them go out early at three consecutive BLAST events at the brink of the year and most recently miss out on the playoffs at IEM Katowice.

kennyS has struggled for individual form in that time, averaging only a 0.98 rating across the four tournaments G2 has attended since the team decided to keep François "⁠AMANEK⁠" Delaunay over JACKZ in the main roster following Nikola "⁠NiKo⁠" Kovač's addition.

The French sniper is allowed to explore new opportunities

The star AWPer leaves the active roster after a four-year stint. He was part of the French "superteam" G2 put together in early 2017 by combining two members of their former squad, Richard "⁠shox⁠" Papillon and Alexandre "⁠bodyy⁠" Pianaro, with the Envy core featuring kennyS, Nathan "⁠NBK-⁠" Schmitt, and Dan "⁠apEX⁠" Madesclaire. Since then, the 25-year-old has been the centrepiece of G2 as he was the only one to remain amid several big changes over the next two and a half years.

With kennyS out of the roster, the rest of the team is bound to undergo some key role changes, with NiKo taking up sniping duties. This, according to team coach Damien "⁠maLeK⁠" Marcel, will provide "more flexibility within our game and the current meta."

"Kenny is a pillar within G2 and a legend in the scene," G2 maLeK said. "We all all feel that, though difficult, a new home for him will be a great opportunity to remain at the top. We are excited to have JACKZ return to the team, bringing his flair, creativity and a new balance to the team."

JACKZ returns after a three-month stint on the organization's bench. While on the sidelines, the 28-year-old was seen playing with the mix team DBL PONEY alongside former G2 teammates bodyy and Lucas "⁠Lucky⁠" Chastang in various tournaments, including the ESEA Winter Cash Cups 5 and 6, in which they placed second and first.

G2 will make their first appearance with the new roster on March 13 against Ninjas in Pyjamas in Group B of ESL Pro League Season 13, which also includes Vitality, MOUZ, FaZe and ENCE.

With these changes, G2 now have:

Ya, even though JW was also dominate he still had a big difference in playstyle compared to kenny, kenny took wild peaks and even pushed situations you shouldnt, and he was able to do so cus of no MS reduction with awp, sadly the rework fucked him over but he was still doing decent for a lil time afterwards atleast. JW on the other hand never really went bananas, he was just very consistent, was very good at holding angles, Aggressive but also defensive, great player overall.

He was fine until recently, ratings wise. He had issues at majors, but he's one of the few players that was consistently better on LAN than online. Also, he fucking destroyed people in his prime. If they never nerfed the AWP movement he'd still be a top player, his style just isn't well suited to slow picks or holding angles, because he's always relied on his reaction time. His aim was always hit-or-miss, but when he had more freedom of movement he could miss a shot and reposition without nearly the same risk as now.

I awp well with a low sens but in the current meta you need awpers that can push and I'm definitely a slow map control player and control the space my team has made, not a run out second behind the entry and trade awper. That's not it. I can play at a decent pug level with 1.4 sens too while awping but different sensitivities allow different things in-game and different positions ( and this is not me saying this but actual pros). But this is pro level, you need to be a dedicated awper for awhile. You'd feel much more comfortable playing 2.0 sens with an awp on connector when Ts take mid control and rush out A. It's common sense that lower sens makes you more precise but a bit less "mobile", and I'm not talking about sens feeling fast etc, that's just muscle memory. Niko has always played low sens, he's at 1.35 I believe but I know for sure that he's aware of things he can do or not.

A 2: I understand kennyS is staying because he's a big part of the org, and they value him (emotionally) more than many of the results which is understandable, but it can lead to complications from a competitive standpoint. I hope kennyS leaves, but "kicking" him could be bad for their image (not like they care but still there's a relantionship issue maybe) if not by mutual agreement, that's why I say maybe kennyS should leave by his own, the thing is that's very unlikely since he said he's hungry to compete in streams. Maybe go full Balkan or keep it EU upgrading some players? 2) Balkan team: In short, there are not enough players to replace -kennyS and -amanek. For this to happen, it'd not only be necessary to change the players, but the management as well. G2 has not been delivering the expected results, and they look like they can't figure out why. Sometimes i wonder if Niko's integration to the team was benefitial, it has brought a lot of movement and changes. But i want to discuss how the team could work from now on. Niko can definately awp and amanek is quite skillful with the big green as well, we've seen him as the secondary awper a fair amount of times. It is sad to hear this but i may have had something like this in mind. Kenny played ass on blast and yes he did had some moments but he was very inconsistant and missing a lot of important shots. I remember when they played against astralis i think he had 4 kills in like 20 or somethin rounds. On the other side i didnt expect niko to get the awp considering amanek was very consistant with it. But hey we will see how this goes and i hope Kenny will get better and maybe get brought back to the team. #G2ARMY

G2 is one of the biggest teams. Their budget is a lot bigger than Gambit for sure, I don't know much about the org behind Furia, so can't say much about that, but it seems pretty minor too. There's more money in G2 than in all of CIS. Complexity is rolling too much though, NA teams are working with even higher amounts.

Maka is one of the best awpers in the t2 scene and the only reason he isn't on either g2 or Vitality already is because well, Zywoo has to be on the awp obviously, and G2 has not been willing to let go of Kenny. Now this happens, and this has to be the time. An aggresive, precise, and overall great awper.

i see a lot of experts here talking how garbage he was last months a couple of things: since niko arrive at g2 their game model has changed completely. They give all the resorces/entries/picks/trades to niko. I'm not saying that is bad, but they completely play around and to the rifler of niko. They dont play anymore around the awp (as many teams do, like navi). The last game and the only game they played to the awp of kenny, he carried g2 against EG on dust2. he had freedom of movement and risked picks that with the arrive of niko he stopped doing. He is in a bad form, everyone can see that. But he is with no confidence of his teammates and nexa dont let the game pass throw him. If the game dont pass by you, how can you have impact? Its sad but is the best to g2 and kennyS This resolve the problem of kennyS but i assure you that in two or three months we will have the meme "ThE ProBLeM wAS KENnyS". g2 with this approach will continue without winning.
