ESL Pro League Season 13 playoffs to be held online
The tournament organizer canceled their plans to bring the playoff teams to Malta.
ESL Pro League Season 13 will be played fully online, contrary to original plans, ESL has announced, citing "travel restrictions and quarantine regulations" in Europe as the reason it will be unable to bring the playoff teams to Malta for a studio LAN event.
The league will begin on March 8 with the group stage, with the playoffs slated to start on April 2. A three-day break will follow after the Round of 8, with the final matches taking place between April 8 and 11.
When ESL unveiled its tournament calendar for 2021 in January, the playoffs of Pro League were outlined as the transition from online play to studio events held on LAN.
With the plans to bring the 12 best teams to Malta now scrapped, question marks arise about DreamHack Masters Spring (April 29 - 9 May), the next big tournament in line for the tournament organizer which was also announced as a studio event.
