hampus heroics rescue win as NIP outlast mousesports in ESL Pro League

The Swedes fought tooth and nail to pull off a comeback on Mirage.

NIP have bolstered their playoff chances with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over mousesports after coming back from an opening map defeat. Surprisingly, the two teams traded each other’s map picks of Inferno and Dust2 with 16-9 scorelines to leave a Mirage decider to settle the contest. There, Hampus "hampus" Poser came alive with a 2.04 impact rating to lead his team from 5-13 down to a 16-14 victory.

mousesports headed into the matchup with no pressure on their shoulders after being eliminated from the playoff running in their previous loss in the group. NIP, however, had a lot to play for to boost their playoff chances as they sat on a 2-1 record with three other teams at the start of the day.

"There was a lot on the line," Nicolas "Plopski" Gonzalez Zamora said in a post-match interview. "We were playing mousesports, who didn't have a lot to lose. I'm happy with the result, but we still have a lot to work on."

nawwk and co. will be hugely thankful for hampus' massive Mirage impact

NIP started the series in a sluggish fashion as mousesports came out of the gates strongly with a 5-1 lead. The Swedes hit back with a flurry of rounds to level the score at 6-6 before the Christopher "dexter" Nong-led squad closed out their defence for a three-round lead at the midway point. Despite picking up the crucial early rounds of the second half, NIP failed to shut down the mousesports offence moving forward as the European side cruised to a 16-9 map win, with Robin "ropz" Kool ending the game with a 1.73 rating.

Dust2 saw a 3-2 lead and economic advantage for mousesports swiftly flipped on its head as an unlikely full eco round with a Erik "ztr" Gustafsson quad kill put the Ninjas in a promising position on the CT side. mousesports kept NIP within reaching distance until the Swedes yet again picked up a pistol round, this time with Deagles in hand, to pull away from their opponents. A Fredrik "REZ" Sterner P250 4K in the second half pistol set NIP on a path to 15 rounds, but mousesports showed a brief sign of resistance as they secured a trio of successes. It wasn’t enough, though, as hampus and co. closed out Dust2 16-9 to level the series.

Mirage played host to the decider, where the trio of ropz, David "frozen" Čerňanský and Frederik "acoR" Gyldstrand ran riot in the first half for a 10-5 lead, extending it further to 13-5 as they began T side brightly. NIP eventually stabilised to turn the tide of the map with a colossal streak to restore parity, spearheaded by consistent multi-kills from hampus. The Swedes continued their phenomenal comeback and dominantly shut down their opposition to snatch the win from the jaws of mousesports after a 30-round contest.

2021-03-17 21:16
+1 sadly people on HLTV with 0 skill and 0 knowledge about playing in a team thinks that you just switch a player or 2 and in 2 weeks they are either the best team in the world or they have to swap again. People dont realise that switching players, and especially igls can take a couple of months, especially if they have different leading styles from the last igl.

Yep that's right. Each region has different styles to approach csgo. So it's not an easy thing to do to merge your ideas to a new team.

Mouz haven't been bad this EPL, have had pretty close maps. Let Dexter adopt to EU meta first, they only need Frozen, Ropz and Acor in great form and consistency to be a top team. Give the roster some time, it has potential and needs some ironing out. Only problem is Bymas who doesn't seem to have improved since his Faze stint but the talent is there.

They actually should have won a lot of those close maps and potentially series with it. So with a little bit of finetuning and adepting this lineup may actually get great results in the near furure.
2021-03-17 21:37
+1 Bymas has the least experience in the pro scene so he will still need time to develop and get used to playing different styles probably. The guy hasnt even been in the pro scene for a year, and he's already had 3 different IGLs, and just recently got a primary spot in mouse. This community is full of toxic kids that will never know what its like to play for anything except kd-ratio.

hampus is looking so good, if not him NIP would lose Mirage for sure. NIP is showing a little bit of life left in them, I think they will still need some roster changes if they want to be good with this lineup, but with some changes I could see them being TOP 5 team. As for mousesports I would expect changes right after this tournament, I don't remember when was the last time I saw mousesports look that bad.

I agree, even though I love watching ZTR I just think he's not done developing and isn't really ready for T1 cs yet (he will be, don't get me wrong). Send him back to YN or loan him out. Then break the bank getting Brollan or Krimz and GG.

This team has got such a huge problems that I doubt that KRIMZ or Brollan would fix it.

I disagree. My biggest issue is that there's no longer swedish talent enough for two top-15 teams and gathering the best 5-6 swedish players could actually become a top 5 team imo
