Astralis to face OG in first round of BLAST Premier Spring Showdown

A post-deadline lineup change scrambled the seedings for the single-elimination qualifier.

BLAST has announced the seedings for the BLAST Premier Spring Showdown, scheduled for April 13-17, forming the single-elimination bracket that will decide the two teams to qualify for the Spring Finals.

The tournament organizer explained that OG was seeded 16th "as they made a change to their submitted lineup after the deadline". The Aleksi "Aleksib" Virolainen-led team, who are closing in on flameZ as their fifth, will therefore start the tournament against the Danish powerhouse Astralis.

OG are yet to announce their replacement for ISSAA

First-round matchups include a Brazilian bout between FURIA and MIBR, as well as Extra Salt's European debut against Spirit. After a respectable ESL Pro League Season 13 performance, Endpoint will kick off their BLAST Showdown against G2, with Thomas "Thomas" Utting filling in the gap for the outbound heading Shahar "flameZ" Shushan.

The matchups and schedule for the initial round is as follows:

Tuesday, April 13
12:30 Denmark Astralis vs. Europe OG
15:30 Europe G2 vs. United Kingdom Endpoint
18:30 United States Liquid vs. Sweden Dignitas

Wednesday, April 14
12:30 Russia Spirit vs. North America Extra Salt
15:30 Russia Gambit vs. Asia NASR
18:30 Brazil FURIA vs. Brazil MIBR

Thursday, April 15
15:30 Denmark Heroic vs. Portugal SAW
18:30 France Vitality vs. South America 9z

Only the two best teams from the Showdown will earn the $30,000 prize and spots at the $425,000 BLAST Premier Spring FInal in June, where the likes of Natus Vincere, BIG, and Complexity await.

Honestly flamez is an individual WHO Has really good aim but lacks experience and abit of patience from clips i seen. Michu is experinced with decent aim. Its 50/50 for them either way though bcuz each of them Play different playstyle, michu tried to Play that slow sens positioning while flamez. Puts everything on his aim. Sometimes goes to do that agressive rifle sometimes passive

2021-04-07 14:17
Man if astralis lose this its their own fault, mantuu is too streaky to consistently outawp device, magisk and dupree are still better anchors than Valde/niko will be, whoever OG use as their 5th will still be integrating Yes there will be position and role changes on OG but I don't think Aleksis style of calling will change much because of it, so it isn't like new amazing unseen strats are coming out either
2021-04-07 12:18
6 replies
yes but that still doesn't mean it's fair. astralis could've played someone like 9z or NASR but instead they actually play a half decent team because of something they couldn't affect.
2021-04-07 12:20
5 replies
I mean its not fair for Astralis but it wasn't really fair that 9z or nasr have to play against Astralis either, these guys would have got like 8 rounds all series max If Astralis doesn't play brain dead then nothing should really change, OG, 9z and NASR should be losing first round
2021-04-07 12:24

but that's just seeding. every tournament puts the best team against the lowest ranked team in the first game.
2021-04-07 12:24

I get your point and I understand the reasons behind it but as far as seeding goes fairness has never been there in events where there are over 100 places between the best and worst teams Everyone loses here realistically except for BLAST who will get more viewers for an OGvAstralis series especially with the Aleksib v Gla1ve narrative Pimp pushes, the 5th debuting and so on Its a stupid rule that probably made more sense back with LANs where teams wouldnt just chop players mid-season out of the blue, but it should have been changed/removed whilst online play is here and the scene is a mess with so many international projects

yes but imagine being 9z, travelling to Europe for your first ever T1 event and you get to play Astralis so you lose in 2 quick games and back to Argentina you go. There should be a lower bracket

Worth it in the long run. Maybe they get eliminated in the showdown but in the long term replacing him with a player who has better gamesense is mandatory if they ever want to go deeper in any real tier 1 tournaments. They should have made this change sooner, but better late than never.

Yea Astralis should be able to defeat OG but they are not getting the advantage of being the highest seed in this tournament which they should be getting. Sure OG ain't a consistent T1 team but it's not like they are dropping their core, 3 same players are still there since the roster's inception and Niko has played with them for some time now, just a different 5th won't completely change or shift the team's dynamic and make them worse than they really are. Similar thing would have been said about OG but it's their fault to not submit a full lineup even after the cutoff date.

Furia vs MIBR RIP BRAZIL KEKW
2021-04-08 06:26
Most rigged tournament on esports. It's so obvious to figure it out each team that is going to move foward into the next phase. Also, we couldn't let the Furia x MIBR slip away (which is basically retarded fallen supporters who hate every other team vs average brazilian csgo enjoyers). "Cuz we need da views". Go fuck yourself BLAST. And congratulations, Fer, the Fernando Alvarenga a.k.a. príncipe do tucanistão, for creating the Furia vs Mibr rivalry, now every single csgo tournament has to make sure that boring match which Furia always wins is going to happen.
