Official: Evil Geniuses sign MICHU; tarik steps down
The Polish rifler is days away from his debut for the North American organization.
Michał "MICHU" Müller has joined Evil Geniuses, the organization announced on Thursday, replacing Tarik "tarik" Celik on the active roster. The American player will "focus on streaming and content creation" while exploring the next step in his career.
MICHU will debut for the team in the FunSpark ULTI 2020 Europe Final which starts on April 19, with Evil Geniuses Director of Esports Greg Kim describing the new signing as "a player who is hungry to compete" against the best teams in the world. "We look forward to seeing him integrate with the team and for our CS:GO team’s continued growth and success."
MICHU has spent the majority of his career competing in domestic squads, representing organizations such as ESC, G2, CSGL and Kinguin from 2014-2018. As one of the most promising Poles outside of the Virtus.pro squad, his callup to join Janusz "Snax" Pogorzelski and co. was inevitable, but came too late.
Following internal turmoil and underwhelming results, Virtus.pro cut ties with the Polish team and MICHU at the end of 2019, seeing him move to Envy in 2020. Over the 74 maps for the North American organization, MICHU averaged a 1.09 rating, slightly below his 2019 average of 1.10.
tarik's exit from the lineup he was a part of since March 2019 comes as a result of differences in opinions on Evil Geniuses' issues, he explains in Twitlonger. "Our results as a team have been lackluster and led to the decision of me benching myself," the 25-year-old wrote. "By no means do I think I was playing well throughout the hardships but I believe that even with our new lineup underlying issues still existed. Ultimately, I had a different approach to our issues and the team didn’t agree with my views. "
Peter "stanislaw" Jarguz and co. will be hoping that the addition of the Polish rifler will reinvigorate the team that has won just two of their last seven games, and is currently ranked 15th in the world.
