G2 overcome OG to progress to BLAST Premier Spring Showdown semi-finals

The French-Balkan team relied on an influential performance from Nemanja "huNter-" Kovač to get them over the line.

G2 are through to the semi-finals of the BLAST Premier Spring Showdown with a 2-1 victory over a stubborn OG and now need just one more tournament win to book their place in the Spring Finals. Nemanja "nexa" Isaković’s team will face the winner of Dignitas and Spirit in the all-important match on Sunday at 18:30 .

The French-Balkan side won Nuke in a 25-23 thriller but collapsed on their own map pick of Dust2, overwhelmingly losing out 16-3 to an unrelenting OG. G2 recomposed heading into Inferno and took the map 16-12 off the back of a standout performance from huNter-, who posted a 1.18 KPR and numerous multi-kills to be the difference-maker.

"Honestly, I think we need to work a lot more and we need some more time to see who fits on which role the best because we are still improvising, we are still trying to improve our game," huNter- said in the post-match interview. "We are trying our best to be in the best shape as soon as we can".

G2 move on to the semi-finals

OG kicked off their map pick of Nuke promisingly on the T side, with a Shahar "flameZ" Shushan 1v2 clutch and subsequent multi-kills helping the team to a 5-1 start. However, after trading a round apiece, nexa and co. took control of proceedings to run away with the half 9-6 off the back of a seven-round streak, with François "AmaNEk" Delaunay finding consistent impact with the ‘Big Green’.

The French-Balkan squad set to work on the offence looking to close out the map promptly and won four out the five opening rounds to reflect their effort, but OG regrouped and tightened up their CT setups to reduce the deficit, ultimately forcing overtime after denying G2 four map points. The two teams couldn’t be separated for a while as three nail-biting overtimes went by before G2 eventually overcame OG 25-23 and a red-hot flameZ, who posted a 48-31 K-D and 104.6 ADR over 48 rounds.

Dust2 was a completely different story. After a 2-2 start to the map, OG ran riot. G2 could find no holes in their opponent’s defence and were pulverized on the way to a daunting 2-13 halftime scoreline. nexa won a 1v2 in the second half pistol, but OG hit straight back to comprehensively close out the map 16-3, with the in-game leader Aleksi "Aleksib" Virolainen posting a 2.05 rating.

An Audric "JaCkz" Jug triple kill on the T pistol briefly gave G2 the lead before OG responded with a series of rounds, including a 1v2 clutch from Aleksib, for a 5-1 advantage. G2 went on to enjoy a period of success, racking up five consecutive rounds to pull ahead by one, but it was OG who went into the break smiling after winning the majority of the remaining rounds. Yet another JaCkz pistol round 3K levelled the score when suddenly a lengthy technical pause occurred. After an extensive break from the action, huNter- was unleashed. The Bosnian rifler stamped his authority on the defence to spearhead his team to a 16-12 victory with a 126.1 ADR to his name.

I'm not here to defend OG or to say G2 didn't deserve the win. I like G2 as well a lot and OG's playbook with the new roster just isn't deep enough yet and seemed to run out of ideas at the end. But Blast Premier not having clear enough rules that there even could be a debate for an hour about them during a match is horrible. Completely ruined the hype for the match and makes them look amateurish I'm very disappointed in an otherwise pretty high quality TO. The rules need to be so clear that referees can re-watch the round one or two times and make a clear decision. Considering the situation, the analyst desk was doing the best they could and I applaud them for that, but a discussion about ZyWoo and S1mple was not what we tuned in to watch.

Blast is a horrible event organiser. I have watched that jumping computer for tons of hours in their competitions over the years. Its just unprofessional and sloppy to have over 45 mins techicals everyday.

I dont know about this time, but in every blast tournament ever there has been so many long technical pauses there has to be huge problems in the blast organization. In other tournaments there is only some short technicals now and then, cant even compare

So you’re blaming it on blast??? What if it was someone’s pc doing weird, or steam... That’s not their fault, blast is a great TO.

I just wont believe blast is unlucky enough that in all their tournaments players just have like 10 times more technical problems than in other tournaments. Other than having ties as possibility in bo1 tournament couple of years back i have nothing bad to say about blast as a TO, but their technical pauses are just something else.

I watch a lot of pro cs from tier 3 to tier 1 and blast is dominating the technical pauses durations, by a lot. I dont take any data but i have never seen 45 min technicals in other tournaments.

I think ever since they rebranded their competition as Premier, they've increased in quality and generally I'm happy with their tournaments(I hated the format of Blast Pro, but production quality has always been fine). A long tech pause is justified if it is a player having issues with ping or hardware because those are difficult to predict issues and nobody can be faulted for it. However, in an unclear situation like this, the rulebook should be solid enough so that a referee can make a clear decision quickly.

G2 was the deeper team in the 2 Maps they won. OG showed great potential, and in Maps like D2 that aren't hard to adapt to, they showed both against Astralis and G2 that they are capable of beating the best. But both on inferno and Nuke they ran out of Ideias, and tbf, if G2 weren't serial chokers and didn't loose to pistols, Nuke wouldn't have OT's
2021-04-17 09:06
To be honest i think OG played better and they proved it on DUST 2 , but still i want G2 to win something cus they didn't won anything for a long time

Very well said, really seems FlameZ will take them to another level. He's top notch and really seems to fit in well. I'm definitely not the person to bash anyone personally, however I do feel that OG might need to consider swapping NiKo for someone who's able to achieve a high level consistently. Valde is alright, Aleksi is doing good numbers for an IGL, mantu is fragging along nicely, just seems that if they'd have someone instead of NiKo who'd have more firepower that would take OG into the top 5.

g2 player dropped before damage was taken, g2 asked to reset, OG didn't want to do it. It took the admin 45++ mins to decide if it should be replayed or not. It ended up fucking OG's momentum so it serves them right, but it's retarded that they don't have clear rules in place for this situations lol
