Dignitas replace Heroic in FunSpark ULTI 2020 Europe Final

The Danish side pulled out of the $250,000 tournament set to start on Monday claiming schedule conflicts.

Heroic have forfeited their spot in the FunSpark ULTI 2020 Europe Final, the tournament organizer has announced. Taking their place in the double-elimination bracket will be Dignitas.

Casper "cadiaN" Møller's team is one of the hottest things in Counter-Strike at the moment, having gone undefeated since the additions of Ismail "refrezh" Ali and Rasmus "sjuush" Beck in February. The ESL Pro League Season 13 winners have pulled out of FunSpark ULTI ahead of their final match in the BLAST Premier Spring Showdown, with their next confirmed event being DreamHack Masters Spring which starts on April 29.

Lekr0's squad were handed an invite to the event

The team under the leadership of Adam "friberg" Friberg caught attention in the BLAST Premier Spring Showdown where they eliminated Liquid with a 2-0 scoreline. Dignitas has recently also defeated teams such as HAVU, Sprout, and Sinners, and climbed to the 28th spot in the world ranking, with another step forward possible on Monday.

With the last-minute change, Dignitas will slot right into the spot in the bracket that was reserved for the highest-ranked team at the event, Heroic, and take on Evil Geniuses in their opening match on April 20.

FunSpark ULTI 2020 Europe Finals, originally planned as a LAN event in China, will be played out using a double-elimination BO3 bracket online. The winner of the tournament will take home the majority of the prize pool, a total of $150,000.

Initial matchups for the event are as follows:

CIS Virtus.pro vs. Russia forZe
Europe Complexity vs. Finland HAVU
Germany BIG vs. North America Extra Salt
United States Evil Geniuses vs. Sweden Dignitas

i wont say EZ for EG because they've probably already spent so much time reviewing demos and practicing counter strats for hours on end.... and then gotta turn around and do it all over from the start again with DiG. so a waste of so much time prepping for heroic just to start over and redo what you've done to get prepared for another team and have less than 24 hours to prep for dig. EG are the favorites but i can see an upset happening for the lack of time they have for preparation against a team they rarely if ever play

?? And where does that favour Dig? It's not like they have more time to prepare than EG. EG is gonna be happy, cause if you have to choose between having to play Heroic and Dig, ofc you will pick DIG.

Yep. I am watching all of Dig's matches. Gonna be EG's first match with obo. Hope Dig will win this time. I am a big fan, but tbh I don't like this invite. Dig bombed out in the first round of the QL (still with old Lineup) while teams like K23 only lost in the final. Should have invited them instead. Anyway. Decisions were made and I am looking forward to see them rekt EG.

idc as long as they can have the chance to play vs t1, and eg is a t1 team that is probably the easiest to win for dig

It's the perfect tournament with very doable matches. Should be facing Big after and BIG is also kinda sucking dick rn, so maybe that's also winnable and boom they'd be in upper final, which will be pretty hard to win, but it's double elimination so that's nice as well. let's fucking gooooooooooo

Heroic is a great team, maybe even the best team in the world atm., they had big chances of winning this tournament, unlucky for them. Dignitas has potential, I think it's good from FunSpark that they give them a chance, I think they deserve it and they can make some damage in this tournament. GL.
