Vitality, FURIA pass lower round one tests; Extra Salt, paiN eliminated from DH Masters Spring
The French and the Brazilian teams will continue their lower bracket survival on Saturday against the upper semi-final losers.
Vitality defeated Extra Salt 2-1 in the first round of Group B’s lower bracket to live to see another day in DreamHack Masters Spring, while FURIA bested their countrymen paiN 2-0 in the other matchup. The Frenchmen will take on the loser of BIG vs. Heroic, while FURIA will face either Astralis or Complexity in the lower semi-finals on Saturday.
The loss comes as a hard-hitting blow for Extra Salt, who were looking to ride the high of a grand final appearance in FunSpark ULTI Europe Final after travelling to the Old Continent for higher-level competition. The North American team, who recently hit their best ranking of 15th, as well as paiN, will be looking to regroup ahead of the cs_summit 8 closed qualifier to get their Major qualification campaigns off the ground.

Extra Salt claimed a promising 5-3 T side lead in the opening half of Overpass, but their funds soon dried up after successive force buys as Vitality established control. The Frenchmen put the pedal to metal moving forward to shut down their opponents, losing just two further rounds on the way to an assertive 16-7 victory.
Vitality kicked off Dust2 with a swift 4-0 defence before Extra Salt found their footing to piece together a dominant streak of rounds. The Frenchmen recomposed to prevent the half slipping away from them and locked down a 9-6 score as a result of their tightened setup. However, as the two teams switched sides, Johnny "JT" Theodosiou’s men showed their opponents they are not to be underestimated by commandingly winning 10 out of 11 CT rounds to secure a 16-10 score and force a decider.
Nuke was left over, where Vitality looked to make up for their disappointing performance on their own map pick of Dust2. Dan "apEX" Madesclaire’s side took control early on and didn’t let up as the map progressed, with Extra Salt only finding sporadic rounds throughout. Mathieu "ZywOo" Herbaut wrapped the series up for his team with 26 kills and 100.8 ADR, opting to use rifles over the AWP for the majority of the map.

The Brazilian pair squared off in their first head-to-head encounter in a do-or-die situation in the lower bracket. paiN took the fight straight to FURIA on their map pick of Nuke, with Gabriel "NEKIZ" Schenato and Rafael "saffee" Costa dealing the damage on the way to a 5-3 Terrorist side lead. A 4K AWP round from Kaike "KSCERATO" Cerato helped add three to his team’s tally, but paiN won the majority of the remaining rounds for an 8-7 halftime scoreline. However, the second half was more one-sided as KSCERATO and Vinicius "VINI" Figueiredo spearheaded FURIA’s offence for a 16-12 victory with minimal resistance.
Mirage was up next, and it appeared to be the tale of the T sides. Andrei "arT" Piovezan & co. stormed to an 11-4 advantage in the first half with powerful executes and looked primed to take the map effortlessly, but Vinicios "PKL" Coelho’s team surprisingly won eight consecutive rounds on the offence to claim the lead. Thanks to their strong opening on the map, FURIA had the rounds to play with and eventually found the five rounds needed to close proceedings out, with Paytyn "junior" Johnson coming alive after a quiet Nuke showing.
