Vitality ease past BIG in DreamHack Masters Spring

The French giants move on in Group B's lower bracket with a statement victory.

Vitality are one victory away from reaching the DreamHack Masters Spring playoffs following a quick victory over an off-colour BIG side, who leave the tournament in 9th-12th place and without a single map taken from their best-of-three matches. Mathieu "ZywOo" Herbaut finished the match at the top of the scoreboard by some distance, but some key contributions were also made by Kévin "misutaaa" Rabier, especially on Mirage, the closer of the two maps.

"Our main goal is the RMR tournament," Richard "shox" Papillon said after the match when asked about Vitality's first tournament since picking up Jayson "Kyojin" Nguyen Van. "We are taking DreamHack as preparation to get the best possible result in the RMR."

Vitality took control of proceedings on Mirage after losing the first three rounds and went on a dominant 8-0 run, during which misutaaa picked up 14 frags. BIG then put their foot down as they secured back-to-back rounds to halt their opponents' momentum, but the French side regained their composure enough to end the half with a 10-5 lead.

ZywOo finished both maps at the top of the scoreboard

The second half began at a frantic pace, with rounds going both ways as neither side seemed capable of assuming control of the game. That trend continued until the 22nd round, when Kyojin and Dan "apEX" Madesclaire clutched a 2v5 situation to put Vitality on 14 rounds, with the French in-game leader dealing the finishing blow a couple of rounds later after being left alone against two opponents.

Things looked gloomy for BIG during the early stages of Nuke as Vitality stormed to a 7-2 lead on the T side, but Germans tightened up and managed to go into the break down by just one round, with Florian "syrsoN" Rische leading the charge with 14 frags and a stunning 7-1 opening duel record to his name.

But BIG's hopes of taking the series to a third map were shattered after the side switch: They were unable to post a single round on the attack as they struggled to break through a Vitality defence led by ZywOo, who went 14-1 and averaged almost 180 damage per round to inspire his team to a comfortable victory, which sets them up against the winner of Complexity vs. FURIA in the next round.

Disregarding that, I still feel like navi without simple was worse than vitality without zywoo. S1mple consistently put up 30k performances, zywoo fell off at the end of the year

navi was shit for a lot of last year, s1mple was good though. Don't watch much vitality but as a team I thought they were better. 2/3 place imo is pretty much the same in the team ranking though, it changes all the time.

T side mirage from BIG was awful So many bad tactics man even worse than Na'Vi strats They have a lot to improve Maybe start with -xantares or -tizian

Xantares hasn’t been as consistent as we expect, but the past few months he’s looked good, and his stats reflect that. Tizian is a straight up support player, like Sanji in VP, so he tends to have below a 1.0. The player that needs to step up is Kito, because they only seem to win when he’s playing well. He doesn’t need to carry, he just needs to hit his shots. I do expect some roster changes here in the near future, and whether they expand to a more international roster is yet to be seen.
2021-05-01 18:23
Tabsen as an IGL shouldn’t be the main source of frags, others need to start stepping up before they get cut. -kito incoming.

The reason why I can’t name a player is because no one knows if BIG will go international or not. If they do, the world is their oyster, if they want to keep it a (mainly) German core, their options are very limited (aka they’ll just pick someone up from Sprout again.) also -DuDe +gob b as coach and this team will actually deserve to stay in the top 10.

I think the team problems get bigger. They changed a lot in the new season. In his Twitch stream (6-7 month ago) Xantares told there will be spotchanges in the team and he talked also with the management. but in the new season we all see, tabsen take a lot of the fight intensiv spots for himself. after the series of Looses the management do some changes last month (Xantares sometimes as entry and a aggressive way) but this changed a lot in the dynamic of the team and also between tabsen and Xantares. Even Xantares‘ desk in the new office get changed (before he sat to the right of tabsen) now he get his desk on the other wall and next to him is syrson who is mostly not in Berlin. All the other mates on one side and Xantares on the other side mostly alone. Also check the new Games, you can’t see reactions and emotions from Xantares anymore like before. I think this will be the last year for Xantares by BiG. I hope they can handle their problems.

Well that's actually surprising for me, Vitality semt to have trouble finding firepower outside of ZywOo, and overall made a lot of mistakes in their games before that, and honestly I was like man just save ZywOo and maybe apEX and rebuild, but that's actually a good result. BIG seems to not have the chemistry they once had, and that's a huge problem, and it causes results like this for them.
