Gambit defeat NAVI to claim DreamHack Masters Spring semi-final spot

The world No.1 team conceded Dust2 to Aleksandr "s1mple" Kostyliev and co., but took the victory in the CIS derby with strong showings on Overpass and Mirage.

Gambit concluded the group stage of DreamHack Masters Spring 2021 undefeated after claiming a 2-1 win over regional rivals Natus Vincere. The upper-bracket semi-final of Group A went three maps after a strong start from Kirill "Boombl4" Mikhailov's team on Dust2, but the "Black & Yellow" weren't able to bring the same tenacity on Overpass and Mirage.

In the post-match interview, Abay "Hobbit" Khasenov was full of praise for his opponents: "First of all, I'd like to say big respect to NAVI, they played really well, different from what we expected." Despite a good initial impression, Natus Vincere weren't able to match Gambit's star duo Sergey "Ax1Le" Rykhtorov and Dmitry "sh1ro" Sokolov across the series, who showed up in style.

The team's AWPer posted a spectacular 34K-10D on Mirage, and it was only a late-game comeback and great clutch play that allowed Natus Vincere to make that map competitive. "We sometimes can't close a map when we are winning, it is a mental problem, but we are trying to fix it", Hobbit said about their issues to shut out a 13-4 lead as CT.

With this result, Gambit move on to the semi-finals of the event that take place on Saturday, May 8, while Natus Vincere will be in action in the quarter-finals against FURIA one day earlier.

Hobbit's respectable form in DH Masters continued this series

Gambit got off to a good start on Dust2, 5-1 on the defense, but weren't able to build on it as Natus Vincere picked up the pace on their map pick. Clinical hits saw Boombl4's' team equalize the score at 5-5 before the in-game leader's quad kill turned around a 2v4, securing Natus Vincere the lead at half time. Gambit looked flat after moving on to the offense, never threatening s1mple and co. who ran rampart to claim the map, 16-8.

Following a slow first map, Ax1Le came online on Overpass, inspiring his team to an 8-2 early lead as Terrorists. Natus Vincere found some success with a s1mple - Boombl4 double AWP, but only managed five before switching to the offense. Gambit's second half on Overpass was similar to Natus Vincere's on Dust2 as Vladislav "nafany" Gorshkov and co. allowed their opponents just two, closing it out 16-8 with a mixed buy.

A USP-S double from s1mple gave Natus Vincere the upper hand at the start of the decider, Mirage, but Gambit regained control of the half in no time. nafany's ace while clearing out B made the score 4-2 in his team's favor, with the lead extending to 11-4 before the switch. As Gambit secured the CT pistol, it seemed like the game was done and dusted (13-4), but Natus Vincere showed tenacity to stay alive. Late-round situations kept going their way, including a 2v5 from Boombl4 and s1mple. Finally, Gambit managed to stop the comeback at 16-13, with an inspired sh1ro standing out on the final map.

Not too disappointed tbh, NAVI were pretty trash dust CT side but I think they’ll beat Furia and maybe get to the Grand Final if they don’t choke

To be honest, on T side, everyone on Navi except elec got much needed impact frags for that scoreline to be close on mirage, B1t with necessary entries, boombl4 with impact frags and his geniuses in mid, Perfecto working together with s1mple in perfect coordination in post plant and his B lurking aswell, the gameplan was good, not the frags, and that 2018 s1mple smoke push made me feel so hyped for every upcoming navi match now on, 10/10 would love being a navi fan since forever

Yeah, but match was still very close, to be honest. First 2 maps are the same for both teams - easy wins. On last map, electronic was on single-digit kills. Imagine if ax1le was bottom-fragging with 8-9 kills. That's the situation in Navi. Navi got ecoed so many times, and still got 13 rounds, 9 on T-side. Gambit is just the best team in the world, hands down. But, it was close.

S1mple is the MOST overrated player EVER in CS history. That guy ONLY cares about top fragging and nothing else, he doesn't even try to make plays to save the round, absolutely ZERO impact player. The dude literally celebrates a loss if he has the most kills. Someone tell this waterbrain that it's not about who has the most frags.

0/8 That is straight up delusional and disrespectful. s1mple does bait for info, but saying he has 0 impact is the next level of hatred. He was the only reason alongside boombl4, why Navi were even winning rounds. Take your spiteful hatred somewhere else.

Of course it was expected. Braindead people keep thinking B1t would be the solution, when everybody on the planet knows Blad3 needs to go and they need a new IGL. You can keep boombl4 all you want, but he can't IGL, he's not a leader, but he's a still a great player. It's about time for blad3 to fuck off out of this team, because he hasn't done anything to change the way they play in 2 years. NaVi will waste s1mple's prime, that is a fact, because this team is DUMB. They keep insisting on the same mistakes, and how much do you want to bet, they're going to go full MIBR and keep replacing 1 player, thinking that will be the solution? This team pisses me off.

Relax man and just let them play. s1mple already proved himself he doesn't need 10 majors and 100 mvps, even his hater recognize his talent and skill, just don't like him as a person. He does what's best for his career and life and Na'vi provides that for him. "NaVi will waste s1mple's prime" s1mple's prime was over 2-3 years ago and he's never even got close to that level again and he never will, no one will that year s1mple went the fuck off in 2018 that was his prime the highest level play of any player up until now his prime is way past. Na'vi whole situation is interesting and the lineup actually is dog, look at this lineup wtf? IDK I know this shit lineup will take time and if s1mple can't pop off they have no chance to win but I already gave up on this team they make so many bad moves in game and outside the game.
2021-05-03 03:33
You are idiot who has 0 memory. When B1ad3 came to NAVI they were top3-10 team, with B1ad3 they became stable top1-3 team. For sure now they are struggling, cuz of dumb online era, but they are still top team and B1ad3 DID A LOT OF WORK FOR THIS.

Blad3 is a fraud. Stop blaming the online era, when EVERY FUCKING BODY IS PLAYING THE SAME GAME. Everyone! Every single one of these teams are playing online and that is the normal now. You either adapt to it, or you go fuck yourself, like NaVi is doing. NaVi sucks, Blad3 is garbage and they're all wasting the prime of the greatest player to ever touch the game. Elec's already falling. Now instead of addressing their real issues with the coaching and IGL, they remove one player and add another that will NOT change much. Now where have we seen that type of thing not working? Hmm.. Oh that's right, MIBR did that SAME THING FOR YEARS and it didn't work. I hate people like you, that are blind and know fuck all about what makes a good team. Why the fuck did you think they were always so inconsistent? Did it ever cross your mind that these guys are incredibly talented and can win any game if they all frag out? Yeah, that's how they won in short streaks, but you will never be at the top for too long with that gameplay style, because you can't rely on your frag potential all the time. I'm done arguing with you. NaVi fans like you are a disgrace to the franchise. Keep praising Blad3 who hasn't achieved anything meaningful as a coach, and boombl4, who can't even run an execute to save his life, while not waiting 'till 20s on the clock. This team is doomed and I hope s1mple leaves this year.

Gambit is insane, it's the start of their era I feel like. NaVi still needs more time with B1T I feel like, they still haven't figured out what's the best way to use him, and that's seenable a lot.
