G2, Spirit in the running for final IEM Cologne group stage invite

G2's upcoming DreamHack Masters Spring playoffs match against Astralis will determine the last invite to the IEM Cologne group stage.

The ESL Pro Tour standings, which award eight spots in the IEM Cologne group stage and eight in the Play-in stage, are near completion, with the only thing left to be decided being which one of G2 and Spirit will go directly to the group stage and which will fight through the Play-in.

G2 are currently below Spirit in the ESL Pro Tour standings, but the French-Balkan side have their fate in their hands, as a victory against Astralis in the DreamHack Masters Spring quarter-finals will push them above the CIS side and ensure their qualification for the IEM Cologne group stage.

G2 require a win over Astralis at DHM to qualify for IEM Cologne groups

Should Nemanja "nexa" Isaković's team lose to the Danes in the quarter-finals, Spirit will remain in sixth place in the European Pro Tour standings and secure the spot at IEM Cologne, while G2 will go to the Play-in.

The remaining 14 teams coming from the ESL Pro Tour — seven from the European standings, four from North America, and one from each of Asia, South America, and Oceania — have already been locked in.

Eight more spots in the IEM Cologne Play-in stage are still up for grabs. Six will be determined via the ESL World Ranking as of May 31, and two will go to the winners of ESL Meisterschaft Spring, whose playoffs will run from May 14-15, and the ESL National Championships Global Playoffs, taking place from May 25-30.

The team list for IEM Cologne, which the organizers plan to hold on LAN from July 6-18, currently looks as follows:

CSGO is in such a weird spot rn, I'll miss the days of having Tyloo give competitive games to European teams, sometimes beat them, or when we had greyhound and RNG come from AU and C9 and Liquid from NA with the likes of SK from Brazil... It was so much fun yet we didn't appreciate it and now it's gone, we have to watch our favorite teams get destroyed by these nobodies called Gambit (except hobbit)

It's kind of like how in football you don't see Cristiano dominating everyone anymore, Arsenal not even in top 10 premier league. The game evolves.

2021-05-06 21:26
You have a point, but there is one thing wrong with it, the way football"evolves" as you call it, is not the same as what has happened to csgo, we all know prime messi and ronaldo would own mbappe and Halland, but rn (kind of) prime s1mple and zywoo are getting owned by... Who was it again... Yeah SHIRO

Well - if you think about it now we have Haaland and Mbappe rising to make an impact. But in csgo the evolution is quicker. Revolves, if you will

And that's what has made it boring to me personally, I'm a s1mple fan, but it's not like don't enjoy watching other teams win, my issue isn't the fact that NaVi are losing to Gambit, it's the fact that I've been watching Cs since 2012 and I have never witnessed a shift like this, Gambit youngsters came outta nowhere and are now dominating EVERYONE, and I mean dominating, not just winning a tournament here and there, they are owning the gods of the game I love and I don't see any joy in watching that

Probably not, at least much. Only realistic chanced could be Fnatic, Extra salt and Spourt. Those only happen if they play well those events. Extra salt could bypass Mouse since ES plays in RMR and iem and Mouse only in RMR

no, BIG/Vitality/FaZe/Bears/OG/FPX would be in the playin if the current ranking would count, mouz would fall through as 7th behind them However, with the ending of DH Spring mouz at least should surpass FPX Insane how Bears got this spot by farming Cash Cups
