G2 edge out FaZe to set up Heroic matchup at Flashpoint

Finn "karrigan" Andersen's team has fallen to the lower bracket following the narrow loss.

G2 have come out on top of a back-and-forth series against FaZe 2-1 (Train 16-14, Mirage 22-25, Inferno 16-8) to secure advancement in the upper bracket of Flashpoint 3 and set up their first clash against the new Heroic lineup in the next round.

It was a promising showing from FaZe, but not quite the recovery they were hoping for following a tough run in the past few months, which has seen them miss out on playoffs at three consecutive tournaments so far. They will have a chance to redeem themselves after falling to the lower bracket in Flashpoint 3, where they will first lock horns with one of the biggest underdogs of the event, Sprout.

G2 opted for Train in their opening match against FaZe in an attempt to punish the karrigan-led side, who had lost the map in four out of five instances since adding the Danish in-game leader, once to the Nemanja "nexa" Isaković-led side in the IEM Summer closed qualifier.

maLeK's squad shook off a triple-OT loss on Mirage to clinch the series

FaZe turned out a tough nut to crack on the opener, but G2 were able to withstand the pressure following their opponents' big run on the CT side spearheaded by Marcelo "coldzera" David and Håvard "rain" Nygaard. After scraping through six rounds on the offense, G2 went on a streak of their own as CTs, and when FaZe made a last-stand effort to climb back from a 10-14 deficit François "AmaNEk" Delaunay stepped up with a game-changing 1v2 clutch to help the French-Balkan side secure a narrow victory.

FaZe picked Mirage, the same map on which they had previously beaten G2 16-5, but this time they had a much taller order ahead of them despite getting off to strong starts on both halves. They couldn't capitalize on a 12-6 lead, with nexa's side finding edges in close situations time and time again to break their opponents' economy twice, and FaZe had to salvage the situation in the last round of regulation to force overtime.

A couple of nail-biting rounds of overtime followed with FaZe being able to resist up against two more match points from G2, and in the third karrigan's side finally prevailed with coldzera spearheading the victory with some late-round heroics, including a defuse in a 1v2 situation.

G2 didn't seem to have trouble shaking off the tough loss, as they had Inferno under control outside of a couple of blunders at the end of the opening half despite losing both pistol rounds. The cousins worked well in tandem as they led their team to a convincing 16-8 victory.

Man I Think back to prime fnatic and the level of cs looks like it's dropped big time. It's actually hard to believe these people get paid so much to play like trash lol. And I mean the majority of the teams not just these 2.

Lol the cs now a days is miles ahead the cs back then. Fnatic would get rekt by utility on banana and wouldn't know what to do.

and delusional faze fans say ch0k0 was the problem. How many month was it since karrigan joined the roster? How many results did this lineup get LUL?

2021-05-13 09:44
FaZe bootcamping = total clownfest. I mean, wtf are they doing there. Look at karrigan instagram, he loves his gf. Prolly dont give a shit about cs anymore LMAO paycheck stealer....
2021-05-13 10:20
G2 raped them on inferno , they showed them how much they are better currently ... if they didn't sold that one round when the time was out , it would be probably like 16-3 or 16-5
2021-05-13 10:29
Can’t win with karrigan, it’s just not possible
2021-05-13 13:17
Damn I miss 2017 Faze instead of this crap
2021-05-13 13:19
pain
2021-05-13 13:25
Karrigan is over. And it's dragging the (already) poor FaZe with him. When FaZe was gaining again a great boost with Olof after Twistzzz signing they just ruined it trying to look for an already finished igl. Get karrigan the spot he might deserve since you trust him that deep tactically: Coach, and get Olof again. You can make it work like that with this roster now!

G2 is actually looking pretty good, but I doubt that they are going to be able to fend off Heroic. FaZe just seem to be not ready for T1 teams really, and they also are losing a lot of duels, which seems weird for a team like this, but I think changes are coming.
