paiN edge past EG; Extra Salt beat EXTREMUM in cs_summit 8 openers

The opening victories assures both teams of spots in the playoffs.

paiN and Extra Salt have secured wins over Evil Geniuses and EXTREMUM in their respective groups to open the main event of cs_summit 8, booking spots in the winners' matches and ensuring they will, at the very least, advance to the lower bracket of the playoffs for the Regional Major Ranking tournament.

Vinicios "PKL" Coelho's troops set up a second Brazilian cs_summit derby with their victory as they will take on the winner of the match between FURIA and O PLANO, with Henrique "HEN1" Teles set to play against his former team for the first time. Extra Salt, meanwhile, face the prospect of a match against Liquid or Bad News Bears, while the losing teams from today's matches are left staring down the chance of an early elimination on Sunday.

biguzera averaged a 1.37 rating in paiN's win over EG

paiN kicked off Nuke with an early lead, helmed by a strong showing from Rafael "saffee" Costa on the AWP. Evil Geniuses stabilized in the latter portion of their T side, edging out an 8-7 lead at the break, but paiN quickly got back in the driver's seat in the second half as they battered EG's defenses to close out the map in short order, 16-11.

The Brazilian roster maintained momentum as their own pick of Vertigo got underway, mustering a 6-3 scoreline on the attack; however, Evil Geniuses once again managed to claw back into the map, with Owen "oBo" Schlatter being the catalyst in closing the gap by halftime. The 17-year-old's solid performance continued into the second half, where was joined by Michał "MICHU" Müller and Vincent "Brehze" Cayonte in helping secure an early string of rounds before putting a halt to paiN's comeback effort to close the map.

The early portion of Inferno marked a stark departure from the narrow margins of the first two maps as paiN let loose on EG's CT side, running up eight rounds in a row to kick things off. Tsvetelin "CeRq" Dimitrov's AWPing was key in EG's effort to remain in contention, and a strong start to the second half seemed like a comeback could be in the cards for Peter "stanislaw" Jarguz's men. Once paiN's economy stabilized and saffee had a sniper in his hands again, though, those hopes of a comeback were brought crashing down as paiN converted their early lead into a map win to take the series.

MarKE's multi-frags were key in Extra Salt securing a 2-0 win

Extra Salt had an easier time of things against EXTREMUM, despite two closely contested maps. An early back-and-forth on Nuke saw the Oceanic roster emerge ahead, 7-2, but Johnny "JT" Theodosiou and company battled back to keep themselves within one round of Aaron "AZR" Ward's side at the half. Clean round wins following the side swap bolstered Extra Salt's CT economy, and that margin allowed them to keep the pressure on their opposition throughout the half, helping edge out a win in regulation.

Vertigo was an entirely different affair as Extra Salt put up a stalwart defense from the onset to claim a 10-1 lead. Although EXTREMUM began to fight back towards the end of the half and found their footing following the side swap, Extra Salt's early dominance was too large a margin to comeback from, and JT's side were able to close out the map 16-12 to take the series.

I didn’t watch this game, but watched game against fnatic in earlier tournament, AZR has no place in tier 1 CS, gratisfaction’s awping was very inconsistent, liazz and Jkaem are okay I guess. Bntet is clearly the best player in the roster and mechanically even more skilled than JKS. Othet factors may affect his performance though, roles, comms, other players being shit etc
2021-05-21 11:19

Grat has always been inconsistent and frustrating to watch as a result. AZR has his moments both ways. Straight after this match probably isn't the best time to say that BnTeT is being held back by him when he was top rating on the team. ;)

With jks they made top 6 and top 4 at last 2 majors in 2019, and were a top 5 rank team a couple of times as a result. I'm not sure that there was another team who made that high in both of them.

I'm actually a big fan of that team, but Astralis was untouchable in 2019 and look where they are... 100 Thieves were unraveling and it was bad, they plummeted out of the Top 30 in a hurry then lost JKS. It's a shame honestly.
2021-05-21 15:18
2 1/2 years is a long ass time.
2021-05-21 18:21
should he be expected to play like a top 20 player when he was playing vs asia, and his last team was a tier 2 team in na? he's been ok so far but they can't win with gratisfaction and liazz
2021-05-21 14:41
1 reply
No, he shouldn't be. That's my point. Yet for whatever reason a majority on this site seem to think he was better at any point in time, never mind now specifically.
2021-05-21 15:09
+1 theyve been absolute shit since even before the major (fluke) and some starladder event final against eg (eg you know, shit too)
2021-05-21 14:59
Maybe 5 years ago. Nowadays no one really talks about him.
2021-05-21 09:49
While I do agree, literally Bntet isn't suppose to be the star player for this team. It just doesn't make sense in my eyes.
2021-05-21 13:34
Not even close. Bntet was amazing on Tyloo, having good performances against much stronger teams. They should just build a team around him, liazz and jkaem. Surely there's a better IGL than AZR,and they need a consistent awper
2021-05-21 14:52
Nah. Not even close. He's actually very decent. The thing is though: he's never been on a top team. He's like the only player to come out of Asia that plays fundamental CS. The rest of that region is fucking braindead aim wars. He's not a major driving force, internationally, for his teams to win, but he's a solid player overall.

Expected results at the end , EG should have started by kicking Stan instead of Tarik. I honestly think they are gonna pull out of the scene if the results like these dont improve. Saffee and Biguzera too good! Unluko for Extremum but i still believe that they are gonna do well in this tournament , i would be disappointed if this isnt where their resurgence begins. Kudos to ES.

yes Cerq has been quite underwhelming this whole year so far but they should have started by kicking Stan and moving Tarik to IGL. They need a change in leadership.

My only issue with Tarik as IGL is that most of his strata revolve around playing pretty in your face, and it was always a very hit or miss style. Still, he could become a good IGL, C9 were pretty decent under him.

problem is there arent many IGLs avaialable to begin with in the whole world , let alone in NA. There werent gonna be many options if Stan was kicked so resorting to Tarik is what would have made sense. But it never happened and EG seem to be getting worse.

I don't disagree. The only player who could've been a realistic pickup was Vanity. But EG getting worse is unfortunately a bunch of factors, and they've waited too long to overhaul the parts that were the issue.

i was soo much hoping for TL to pick up Vanity back in the day , he satisfied both the roles that TL was missing. But yea it seems like there needs to be a huge overhaul with EG`s squad , Stan is just not doing enough and Cerq went from the best Bulgarian player last year to domestic squads of his finding more international success this year in Fiend and Skade.

It is time for Zews to go. Ever since he came the team is not performing well. EG keep loosing because of bad CT sides and forgotten smokes... this is a coaching/igl problem, not a players problem.

paiN is actually looking great, TOP 30 team for me. stan has to go for EG, they are making so many stupid mistakes + this guy is just a bot. Extra Salt looking insane as expect, I feel like this team will be TOP 10 with some time. EXTREMUM actually I felt like is starting to look good, Extra Salt was just way to strong for them.

blatant brazilian cheating, how sad that the integrity of competitive csgo is ruined.
