daps returns to Counter-Strike as Evil Geniuses head coach
The 27-year-old has transitioned back to CS:GO as coach.
Evil Geniuses have announced Damian "daps" Steele as their new head coach on Tuesday, marking the Canadian's return to Counter-Strike eight months after he switched to VALORANT. daps steps into the spot left vacant by Wilton "zews" Prado's departure from the team at the start of June.
"Excited to start my coaching journey with the boys, happy to be back in CS", daps wrote on Twitter as he reunited with his former teammates Vincent "Brehze" Cayonte and Tsvetelin "CeRq" Dimitrov.
As the in-game leader of NRG for over two years, daps built the foundation of the current Evil Geniuses team. With the core of Ethan "Ethan" Arnold, Brehze, and CeRq, he went on to win two international titles and peak at No. 4 in the world ranking. daps was replaced by Peter "stanislaw" Jarguz ahead of the StarLadder Major, with the whole team moving from NRG to Evil Geniuses shortly after the event.
daps spent the following year in Cloud9 and Gen.G, two teams that currently aren't fielding a roster in CS:GO, before trying his luck in VALORANT. Following eight months away from Counter-Strike, the Canadian returns to the game he competed in for eight years.
From the coach slot, daps will be aiming to rejuvenate an Evil Geniuses side that placed last in four of their last five events, but showed potential by making playoffs at IEM Summer 2021. daps will have his coaching debut for Evil Geniuses at the IEM Cologne Play-In on July 6-7.
