CIS RMR group stage concluded: Gambit top group A over NAVI, Virtus.pro eliminated

Alongside three regional powerhouses, K23 managed to sneak into the playoffs.

After five days of action and 20 BO3 matches played, the group stage of the StarLadder CIS RMR has been concluded. Gambit and Natus Vincere took the top two spots in group A and advanced to the playoffs, while Spirit and K23 did the same in group B.

FORZE and Entropiq, who finished third in their respective groups, will face off in the fifth-place decider where 1500 RMR points are on the line, while the teams finishing 6-10th leave the event with only cash prizes.

Ax1Le continues to deliver for Gambit, averaging a 1.27 rating in groups

Group A was a two-horse race between the No. 1 and No. 2 team in the world, Gambit and Natus Vincere. Both sides went flawless in the first three matches of the round-robin group, with their head-to-head deciding the seeding heading into the playoffs. For the third series in a row, Gambit took the win in the derby, with their star duo Dmitry "sh1ro" Sokolov and Sergey "Ax1Le" Rykhtorov topping the charts.

Akuma, the squad that shocked the world in the previous Regional Major Ranking tournament by taking down Natus Vincere and Virtus.pro after which they were subject to cheating accusations, failed to play up to the same level in the StarLadder CIS RMR. Dmitriy "SENSEi" Shvorak and co. lost all four matches at the event, posting a -65 round difference and picking up just one map in the process.

Group B was topped by Spirit convincingly as Leonid "chopper" Vishnyakov and co. went 4-0 to advance to playoffs as Nikolay "mir" Bityukov averaged an event-high 1.36 rating. The second spot, however, was up in the air until the end, as before of the final round of matches, there was a four-way tie between K23, Entropiq, Virtus.pro, and 100PG. Ultimately, Dauren "AdreN" Kystaubayev's team came out on top, with a little help from Entropiq who took down Virtus.pro.

Virtus.pro's early elimination spells danger for the world's No. 6 as they leave the event empty-handed. Either FORZE or Entropiq will overtake them in the ranking when the event is concluded, which will see Dzhami "Jame" Ali's squad fall out of the top 5 spots that give slots at the PGL Stockholm Major, and leave their Virtus.pro's Major hopes depending on their performance in the final RMR tournament.

The double-elimination playoffs will start off with the following matches on Friday:

16:00 Russia Gambit vs. Kazakhstan K23
19:00 Russia Natus Vincere vs. Russia Spirit

The playoffs will be played out using a BO3 format, barring the grand final which will take place as a BO5 with a map advantage for the team coming from the upper bracket. The fifth-place decider will be held on Saturday:

13:00 Russia FORZE vs. Russia Entropiq

His team was bad. Csgo is a TEAM game. Coldzera had fallen and fer who were both top 5 players in the world. Fer was the best entry fragger along with rain in 2017. Did s1mple have anyone else except electronic in his team who was top 5? Also s1mple isn't washed up yet. He can win major in future. But last 2 years navi had the best chance of winning major but major never happened. Especially after katowice 2020, navi was looking really strong.

Navi's dust 2 loss is exactly why this roster will never win a major, and also why Gambit>Navi. Look at Gambit's attack, its so disciplined, almost suffocating, Navi on the ct side looked completely helpless. Navi's attack on the other hand: going one by one, s1mple and b1t go kill, timings are way off etc. Gambit's play on the T cide is pure discipline and strats, while Navi rely on chaos and individial clutches, whoch obv won't get them far. Also, it should be pretty obv by now that Boombl4 is absolutely terrible. His main strat is to go ahead, alone and without refrag possibility, self flash and hope for the best. If he gets an entry, then Navi can win, but if he dies, Navi's offence pretty much chokes. His aim is terrible as well, and most of the time, he is only useful as a bait. That said, Navi at least kept it competitive, they are definitely a great team with a lot of talent, its just that they aren't good enough to create an era like astralis and (if they will be just as great on LAN ofc) Gambit.

They need to sort out their T-side full stop. Boombl4's IGL opts to play around s1mple and Blad3's strats are easy to counter, they have an overall weak T-side and it needs to be ironed out. Thankfully, only Gambit seems to be able to get the better of Na'Vi due to the fact they have direct counters to s1mple in the name of Interz/sh1ro, who mostly bait and switch to get the better hand of the opposition.

Yep, you're absolutely right. I must say that I have been watching Navi since 2015 and I secretly root for s1mple to get at least one major. But unfortunately, I think they missed their biggest chance in 2016 in columbus. It is not enough to be just good to win a major, you have to be the best, at least during the major. Either Boombl4 or Blade (or both) need to go in order for Navi to become a consistent powerhouse like Gambit, but I doubt that Navi management will be willing to make a hard reset half a year before the major. Anyways, I hope that Navi can prove themselves on LAN, although its silly to think that they can overcome Gambit just by transitioning to LAN or by bootcamping. Their offence is completely flawed and gets exposed by Gambit time and again.

Group A was unfair for the other 3 teams tbh , 2 slots for each group and you place both the best teams of the WORLD (not just region) in the same group. Obivously no one else was making it out of there , unluko seeds. Anyway another EZ GG tourny for Gambit , they are still quite unstoppable.
2021-07-01 23:22

I understand that the seeding is based on the amount of rmr-points earned. The first place is currently occupied by Spirit; 2,3 - Gambit and Navi; 4 - VP. That's all the justice. 1st and 4th place in group B, and 2 and 3 in group A

I think it's confirmed that Gambit has their era going atm. NaVi has firepower to compete, but when it comes to strats, Gambit is just way ahead. Huge dissapointment from VP, they didn't work well as a team, the firepower was not there, this was a completely different team than the one from the start of the year.
