ESL Pro League playoff format reworked ahead of Season 14

The group stage winners will no longer face off in a play-in.

ESL has announced the new format for the Pro League playoffs, doing away with the play-in that previously saw the top teams in each group battle it out for spots straight into the semi-finals.

What won't change is the number of teams making the playoffs, three from each group, with the second and third-placed squads going into the Round of 12, as they did before, while the top teams will be seeded straight into a full-fledged eight-team quarter-finals — a consolidation of the previous Round of 8 and the four-team quarter-finals where the play-in losers awaited.

The changes come following community feedback and are implemented in agreement with the teams and players ahead of Season 14, set to kick off when the player break comes to an end on August 16 with Group A, which features Heroic, Astralis and Vitality.

Hey thats cool

cuz its single elimination and teams that got 1st place will get 0 advantage basically so even if u get 6-0 in group stage u still be only 1 game ahead in playoffs, i like more season 12's format with double elimination and 1 map advantage from upper bracket
2021-07-27 18:47
as long as there is no lower bracket bs, anything is good
2021-07-27 17:14
nice
2021-07-27 17:15
Why round of 12? Might aswell have gone with a double elimination bracket.

people don't like double elimination because the team that wins upper bracket gets an advantage in finals (usually starts 1-0)

What would you think of keeping double elim and removing the map advantage?

I don't think so... I don't like the map advantage but double elim with no advantage at all is also unfair... the lower bracket winner has lost already once whereas the upper bracket team didn't get to use their "second chance" if they lose at grand finals... I would like to see something in the middle, not a 1-0 but not a useless advantage either... hard to find a solution because always someone will think it's "unfair" for them

or mby rather if we play bo3 so you have ban ban pick pick ban ban, winner team would be able to do both first bans at the beginning.
2021-07-29 11:39
Then the team who never lost doesnt get enough benefits
2021-07-27 19:20
Well then a team like Navi or Gambit can just throw the first round of upper bracket and smurf in the lower brackets
2021-07-27 19:31
Way better than the previous one. I liked it.
