Endpoint, AURA top third IEM Fall open qualifier
The unknown Swedish side made a number of big upsets in the bracket.
The third IEM Fall Europe open qualifier has concluded, with Endpoint and AURA topping bracket and earning their spots at the closed qualifier later in September. They follow close in the footsteps of both Movistar Riders and Copenhagen Flames who won the second qualifier on September 3.
Endpoint had a fairly straightforward run through the bracket of the third qualifier, taking down AGF, OPAA, and AVEZ in their final three matches. The result acts as a recovery from the second qualifier, which saw the British side lose to FATE in the round of 32. Despite an overtime in the first map against AVEZ, Endpoint was mostly in cruise control and will have a spot secured in the main qualifier for IEM Fall.
The big surprise of the day comes in the qualification of Swedish team AURA, who took down a number of known teams ranked much higher than them on their way to qualification. The players of the team are nearly fully unknown, with their recent event participation being the ESEA Advanced division and DreamHack Beyond Community Clash.
AURA's final three matches in the qualifier bracket saw them take down Finest, Izako Boars, and LDLC. It wasn't an easy run for them however, as most of their played maps went over 25 rounds. This result also shows a strong improvement over their performances in the previous two qualifiers, where they went out in the round of 32 and round of 64, losing to Danish sides Copenhagen Flames and MASONIC.
With one more qualifier set to take place starting September 9, there's only one more shot for teams to get a chance to win RMR points for the 2021 cycle. On top of the eight teams from open qualifiers, three spots will go to the bottom three EU RMR teams as well as five other invites based on the ESL World Ranking.
If we were to take the current standings of the rankings, Anonymo, fnatic, and FaZe would fill the RMR spots, while ENCE, Eternal Fire, Dignitas, SKADE, and SINNERS are the highest-ranked teams without RMR points.
