SAW bench arki, add story
The newcomer will take over AWPing duties in the Portuguese squad.
SAW have announced they are parting ways with Omar "arki" Chakkor, who had been part of the team's longstanding core with Christopher "MUTiRiS" Fernandes and Ricardo "roman" Oliveira dating all the way back to when all three of them played in Giants in 2018 and 2019.
The 31-year-old made the jump to SAW after he and his teammates parted ways with Giants and Ricardo "fox" Pacheco in early 2020, and despite a slow start the squad made steady progress and even became a top 30 team by the end of the year, peaking as high up as No. 21.
But the beginning of 2021 has not been easy for the Portuguese team, as they dipped back out of the top 30, struggling in ESEA Premier and in open qualifiers, ending in arki’s last event with the team being a 16-18th place finish at Pinnacle Fall Series 1.
Taking the place of arki will be a very different player in João "story" Vieira, a 19-year-old AWPer that played mostly at the local level in FTW. To make way for him, Renato "stadodo" Gonçalves will give up the big green and take up rifling duties in what will no doubt be an adjustment period for the squad as roles are swapped to accommodate the newcomer.
"This was one of the most difficult decisions to make in my coaching career," Ricardo "AIm" Almeida said, "arki has been with us since day one and together we have traveled a fantastic and unparalleled path. Putting him on the bench was a very tough decision, however, right now the team is going through some difficulties and we need to find our bearings again.
"Despite these changes, arki will always be a part of SAW, no matter what the future holds. To the great warrior arki, my eternal thanks for being part of this amazing journey inside the server, but most of all, for everything you gave us outside the game, the friendship and camaraderie. Hasta pronto Omar!"
SAW’s new lineup is:
Ricardo "AIm" Almeida (coach)
Omar "arki" Chakkor (benched)
