OPAA, SAW round out IEM Fall Europe Closed Qualifier team list
The IEM Fall open qualifiers have come to an end, with all 16 teams for the closed qualifier now known.
The final round of open qualifier matches have come to a finish with two best-of-three series that put OPAA and SAW through to the closed qualifier, putting an end to a grueling set of four open qualifiers with hundreds of teams fighting for the coveted spots.
The two qualified teams therefore join Fiend, MAD Lions, Movistar Riders, Copenhagen Flames, Endpoint and AURA from the other open qualifiers, as well as Anonymo, fnatic and FaZe, who made their way through the RMR rankings, and five teams from the ESL World Ranking: ENCE, Eternal Fire, SKADE, Dignitas and Sinners.
Danny "BERRY" Krüger and company, who had been knocked out of the bracket by Endpoint in the previous open qualifier, were able to take several considerable scalps this time around, as from the Round of 16 all the way to the final match they beat teams well above them on the rankings.
They started by leaving behind Lyngby Vikings in a best-of-one that went into overtime, then taking out GORILLAZ in the final best-of-one match before winning the crucial series against HAVU in another match with overtime, this time in the decider map.
SAW, who recently made a roster change letting go of longtime member Omar "arki" Chakkor to make way for a new AWPer, João "story" Vieira, were the last team to punch their ticket for the closed qualifier after failing to make a dent in the previous three open qualifiers.
The Portuguese squad ended their first day of play in the qualifier with a victory over AGF, and they then resumed on the final day with one last best-of-one victory, against MASONIC, before clinching their spot with a 2-0 victory over AaB in their final match of the bracket.
