FaZe among teams through to IEM Fall 2021 Europe in second day of closed qualifier
Four more teams secured spots at the main event, with the last four spots up for grabs in the qualifier to be handed to the winners of the four lower bracket matches left.
The second day of play in the IEM Fall 2021 Europe Closed Qualifier has come to an end with FaZe, Copenhagen Flames, Dignitas and SKADE through to the Regional Major Ranking tournament. The other four teams that fell short in the day's matches will join the losers from the opening day in the lower bracket for a final chance at qualifying.
FaZe, by far the highest ranked team in the qualifier, were the first team to punch their ticket to IEM Fall 2021 Europe on Wednesday when they breezed past OPAA in their upper bracket series, slamming the Danes 16-1 on Mirage before wrapping things up on Overpass (16-9).
The other match in the opening time slot, Fiend vs. Copenhagen Flames, was a much closer affair, with the two teams winning their map picks, Nuke (11-16) and Mirage (16-12), respectively, before going down the wire on Overpass, where Rasmus "HooXi" Nielsen and company took it in overtime.
MAD Lions, who have shown brilliant form lately winning 11 matches in a row and successfully qualifying for BLAST Premier Spring Showdown, weren’t able to continue their streak, and were dropped to the lower bracket by Dignitas, who took the series 2-0 on Nuke (16-9) and Mirage (16-14) to secure their spot at the upcoming IEM event.
The final match of the day, which went into the small hours of the morning, paired Anonymo and SKADE. The Poles took the early lead in the series winning their pick, Vertigo (16-13), but it was SKADE who, after tying things up on Inferno (16-7), finished the job on the decider map, Ancient (16-8), to make it through to the next phase.
The final four matches, which will be played on Thursday and will each see one team through to IEM Fall 2021 Europe, are:
