flamie becomes free agent after six years with NAVI
The 24-year-old will play the upcoming WePlay Academy League season with NAVI Junior, but is free to explore his options for the future.
Egor "flamie" Vasilyev joined the stalwart CIS organization in March of 2015 as an up-and-coming rifler and went on to earn two MVP medals, claim two top 20 players of the year placings, win 14 notable LAN events, and spend 27 weeks as the no. 1 team in the world with Natus Vincere.
After six years with the organization, flamie is no longer contracted to Natus Vincere, but will link up with the organization's NAVI Junior squad in the upcoming season of the Academy League in order to bring the youngsters experience and display his form.
NAVI COO Alexey "xaoc" Kucherov explained that the decision to make flamie a free agent was "based on the team’s successful results recently and the specifics of the RMR system," which heavily punishes teams that attempt to employ a six-man rotation.
Natus Vincere used a rotating lineup with Valeriy "B1T" Vakhovskiy and flamie until April, when the imminent start of Regional Major Ranking events forced a number of teams to drop the extended roster approach. That led to B1T getting a permanent spot on Natus Vincere and the CIS squad subsequently winning four out of six events they attended, grabbing the Intel Grand Slam along the way.
"Taking these factors into consideration, as well as Egor's contribution to the development of the discipline and the club in general, we have decided to give flamie the status of a free agent so he doesn't come across possible restrictions for his further development," xaoc added.
"Despite the fact that Egor is a NAVI veteran, he is young, motivated, experienced, and has fantastic aim. These characteristics are definitely demanded in ambitious teams."
The dates for WePlay Academy Season 2 are yet to be released, but the tournament is expected to happen in the next few months, and could serve as flamie's showcase ahead of a likely post-Major roster shuffle.
