WePlay to run Academy League Season 2 in September-November

The second season of the academy league will run online in September-October and culminate with the finals in Kyiv in November.

WePlay has announced details of the Academy League's second season. It will feature the same eight organizations' academy teams from the first season and offer up $100,000 in prize money again, but this time the online portion will be played in a different format.

The eight participating teams will first play in two double-elimination groups, from which the winning teams will advance directly to the finals, while the second and third-placed teams will play in a "Last Chance" group for two more finals spots.

The Academy League returns with a second season

The online part of the tournament will run from September 28-October 9 before the competition moves on to the WePlay Esports Arena in Kyiv, Ukraine on November 12-14 with the top four teams.

The inaugural season of the league took place in July-August and saw mouz NXT come out victorious, with Young Ninjas finishing in second place and BIG Academy and fnatic Rising rounding out the top four at the LAN finals in Kyiv.

The event showcased some of the most interesting young players on the rise, such as Russian prodigy Ilya "m0NESY" Osipov hailing from NAVI Junior, Jon "JDC" de Castro and Ádám "torzsi" Torzsás from mouz NXT, Iulian "regali" Harjău from fnatic Rising, and more.

The following eight teams will be in action again in the second season, starting from late September:

idk, there is some feud between Na'Vi CEO and Spirit because Espada was basically Spirit Academy but technically it was registered as its own organization, so he probably has some say in all this. They promised though that Spirit Academy would be invited once the league expands but fuck knows when this will happen

Aha, wierd that Na'Vi should have such a say, but I guess Na'Vi and m0nesy is a pretty integral part to bring viewers.

well it's common practice in any sports industry for big clubs to have some influence. I also know that this league was working with interested organizations like a year ago and Espada still existed back then so maybe Spirit just didnt try to get a spot in time. Anyway, them and MIBR academy should be in WePlay once more spots open up

Is not a matter of how good they are. It's a matter of having more academy teams in this project to encourage more orgs to build them and help to develop the scene. there are orgs like Alliance or x6tence that could also be in here since they're trying to develop a young roster.

They’d be better off adding endpoint over their academy as Mouz NXT would probably stomp them so hard they’d retire

Why call a tournament the Academy League when in fact it is a tournament among teams from dedicated clubs? Name the tournament "League of 8 Academies". After all, after the first season, they said that the number of participants would be increased. As the saying goes: "They wait for the promised three years." What was the principle behind the selection of participants? Why are these 8 teams participating? Why weren't other academies invited? The answer to this question will forever remain a mystery !!!

They could've changed maybe one or two teams that went out last, would be cool to see. But anyway, this one should be even more easy for mouz NXT, they really look great and honestly I think they will hit TOP 30 really soon.
