EG claim final NA Major spot over EXTREMUM

The North American side will now hope to gain Legends status.

After winning the fifth place decider match in IEM Fall North America, Evil Geniuses have secured themselves enough Regional Major Ranking (RMR) points in order to qualify for the PGL Stockholm Major beginning in late October. The other direct result of this match is that Oceanic majority team EXTREMUM will miss out on the Major.

Evil Geniuses have the potential to take the final of three Legends spots reserved for North American teams, but must rely on the under performance of paiN to do so. If paiN lose both of their games in the playoffs to place 4th overall, then Evil Geniuses will claim the Legends spot. If paiN places 3rd or higher, then Evil Geniuses will take the single Challengers spot reserved for NA.

oBo will have another chance to make the Major Top 16

Evil Geniuses swept the floor with EXTREMUM on Nuke, locking down their CT side 11-4, and then quickly closed out the map 16-6. Map two saw Evil Geniuses take another lead in the first half, but thanks to a massive performance from Hansel "BnTeT" Ferdinand, EXTREMUM were able to grind their way back to a 16-13 win on Mirage. Despite some early efforts by EXTREMUM on Inferno to keep the first half close, Evil Geniuses went on to sweep the second half without dropping a round to win 16-7.

Evil Geniuses will join Liquid, FURIA, GODSENT, and paiN as the fifth team from North America set to attend the PGL Stockholm Major. There remains only two unfilled Major spots in all regions, one from Europe and one from Asia, set to be decided on Sunday. Evil Geniuses' status as a Legend will also be decided on Sunday following the 3rd place match between paiN and Liquid.

The other match of the day saw GODSENT take down Liquid to reach the IEM Fall NA grand final. Despite GODSENT having a shot at winning the tournament, they will still place 5th overall on the NA RMR, taking the Contenders spot reserved for the region.

The series kicked off with a close map one, going back and forth until the very end where GODSENT pulled out a 16-14 score on Inferno. The second map, Nuke, went much more in the favor of GODSENT, who, thanks to a huge performance from Eduardo "dumau" Wolkmer took down the NA giants 16-8.

Nope, CN team will gladly welcome him but surely He didn't want to return to asia yet. He's still good enough for t2 team in europe. In NA, Extra Salt did tried to sign him in the past, He could be an upgrade for any of their rifflers.

2021-10-10 04:43
Absolutely. -MarkE and -Sonic, +BnTeT and +RUSH for example could improve that team a lot. Or -FaNg if he continues to not play up to his early 2021 level.

Regardless of whether it's them or paiN that gets the last Legends spot, that will be the lowest-caliber Legends team. EG have a higher ceiling than paiN, though, and they could pull off some surprises especially if they get a favorable first match up in the Legends stage.

Yeah, they should swap EG/Pains legend spot with someone like Astralis, Ence, Spirit or VP, this can only degrade the tournament, sadly it won't happen.

That wasn't my point, and I don't think that is a wise solution in reality. Making arbitrary decisions like that completely outside of the major qualification system would make the entire system meaningless. That would be a serious hit to the integrity of the esport, much more serious than a non-Tier1 team making it into the highest qualification bracket of one major. Weirder things have happened. If this is truly degrading to the tournament, then Valve need to come up with a better major qualification system - and a lot of the authoritative voices in the scene have said that, although imperfect, this major qualification system is better than what CS used to have.

I agree, that's why I said that it won'T happen. The main flaw is that the team/region distribution is still based on the Berlin 2019 Major, compare the NA scene from there with todays situation.

i think playing for NA (at that time) have another benefit, which is have a better opponent to challenge yourself, but sadly NA is dying now you can face NA and EU team more often, and get invited more often to various tournament unlike in Asia, they only time they can face NA EU is on the Major or ESL Asia event such IEM Beijing or IEM Sydney when they are the host team for example look at Tyloo or Vici, the only time you heard them is from Major qualifier or the Major itself

I understand the logic behind. I just think it is better for the aussie's scene to have more experience teams. JKS_delusional told me an another good point. The aussie's lockdown, it is an another good reason to stay away from there.
