Nerd Street Gamers announce Winter Championships circuit

The tournament organizer will run nine LAN events and six online tournaments that will lead into Fragadelphia 16.

Nerd Street Gamers have made public the details of their North American Winter Championships circuit, the existence of which was first teased in September during Fragadelphia 15.

Online weekly tournaments, six regional LANs, and three "Major" LANs will each offer a prize pool alongside leaderboard points towards qualifying for Fragadelphia 16, which will run from March 4 to 6. The top four teams on the leaderboard ahead of the tournament will all earn travel support and lodging to attend the event.

In a departure from Fragadelphia's regular formula, the main event will no longer offer open entry, and instead the top sixteen teams on the leaderboard will directly qualify. However, to keep the pathway to the tournament open to all, a 32-team, open entry last chance qualifier has been created, which will play out on March 3 and offer eight spots in Fragadelphia 16.

The eight teams from the last chance qualifier will meet the teams ranked 9-16th from the leaderboard on March 4, from which the top eight will advance to take on the teams who placed 1-8th on the leaderboard on March 5. A detailed breakdown of the circuit and its points distribution can be found here.

The three Major tournaments leading into Fragadelphia 16 will offer the highest sum of leaderboard points and a prize pool of $10,000 apiece, with up to 32 teams able to compete.

The locations, dates, and sign-up links for those are below:

Fragadelphia 16 Major: Philadelphia, PA - November 13-14
Fragadelphia 16 Major: Denver, CO - December 11-12
Fragadelphia 16 Major: Chicago, IL - January 22-23

The online events and regional LANs will offer $2,000 and $2,500 prize pools, respectively, with the former allowing up to 32 teams to compete, and the latter capping out at 16 teams.

The locations, dates, and sign-up links for the regional LAN events are:

Fragadelphia 16: Bakersfield, CA - October 16-17
Fragadelphia 16: North Brunswick, NJ - October 30-31
Fragadelphia 16: Brentwood, MO - November 27-28
Fragadelphia 16: East Falls, PA - January 8-9
Fragadelphia 16: Fullerton, CA - February 5-6
TBD Regional LAN - February 19-20

While the dates and sign-up links for the online tournaments* look to be:

Fragadelphia 16: Online #1 - November 6-7
Fragadelphia 16: Online #2 - November 20-21
Fragadelphia 16: Online #3 - December 4-5
Fragadelphia 16: Online #4 - December 18-19
Fragadelphia 16: Online #5 - January 15-16
Fragadelphia 16: Online #6 - January 29-30

*dates for the online tournaments may be subject to change based on conflicts with external events

I don't mind it but i believe it is a fact. I am not living in NA what is your perspective about NA CS after VALORANT came out

Yes, I think NA is in its worst state it has ever been in but now that Fragadelphia has come back, and NSG have made a circuit it's slowly going to rebuild. Maybe it'll never reach back to what it once was but every little bit helps. More circuits and tournaments keeps the players in NA motivated to play. NA is pretty much dead but does saying "NA CS LUL" every time help? No

Yeah you are right, i don't really care about CS scenes but i would like to see better teams and players. Back in 2016-2017 it was more unpredictable who would win tournaments. There should be more new maps instead of mirage, inferno maybe even dust2. CSGO was a lot fun back in the days. I would appreciate more decent teams to compete against the likes of NaVi and Gambit
2021-10-12 01:05
NA scene will bounce back next year... the brazilians teams in NA will help, plus the back of LAN events etc... Wait and see.

Yeah I can see GODSENT, FURIA are decent teams, but it is still not enough to win tournaments for NA

I think that their mission right know should enforce the NA region to bring more orgs back, like Cloud 9, 100 thieves, Sentinels etc.. Then the competition would become better and them they would stand a chance to beat EU/CIS teams.

I can see this being benefitial for brazillian teams cause you know, Brazil has the talent and NA certainly got the money. So it would be great for the future that if NA cs bounces back we could see NA and BR cs merging in some way
2021-10-12 06:03
I don't think that 100 thieves will get back but cloud9 will come back now or later. But i have a feeling that they will take EU roaster
2021-10-12 08:38
NA got hit harder by Covid than by Valorant lol
2021-10-12 05:25
Why do you think that? Did he play it on stream or what?
2021-10-12 00:57

I saw him playing valorant in tarik's stream once, of course i am not sure if he plays more valorant than cs just take it as a joke with some truth behind it. I would like to ask elige tho but i don't have any Twitter account or some place i can ask him. I am not sure but of course he can play whatever he wants after the praccs. We don't judge people

Honestly stuff like this has been needed for a while. Part of what made CPL so amazing was just how many teams got to compete. We've lost small LAN events, so this is a good way to get people interested again.

I wonder if a CPL-esque tournament is still viable today? Just let anyone qualify with 64 teams it was insane

Who knows. I think it'd be good if it was, though maybe change the structure a bit. But large, open tournaments with big cash don't exist anymore, but they used to really let players/teams breakout.
