G2 and OG advance to BLAST Showdown quarter-finals

Only three spots in the quarter-finals remain after today's games.

G2 are through to the next stage of the BLAST Premier Fall Showdown 2021 after defeating Lynn Vision in a competitive showing from the Chinese, which saw the favorites come back into the series after a surprising loss on Vertigo to the Chinese squad.

It was less stressful day for OG, as they swept paiN 2-0 with Aleksi "Aleksib" Virolainen producing some great moments for his team across both maps.

G2 will face the winner of Evil Geniuses vs MAD Lions on Saturday while OG will fight Complexity on Friday for a spot in the semi-finals.

Aleksib ended the series with a 1.40 rating

Lynn Vision shocked fans and analysts alike by stealing Vertigo from heavy favorites G2 after a thrilling game. The Chinese squad found themselves trailing 6-9 at halftime, but a 1v5 clutch from Lizhi "Starry" Ye and some great AWPing from Sike "z4kr" Zhang allowed them to take the initiative in the second half and carry their success all the way to edge the map 16-14.

Nemanja "nexa" Isaković's boys came back with a better showing on Inferno. A classic Nikola "NiKo" Kovač performance on the CT side powered his team to take a 9-6 half-time lead despite an early Lynn Vision advantage. The European squad comfortably closed the map on the T side 16-10.

Nuke was a one-sided affair with G2 locking down the power plant for an 11-round winning streak which perfectly set them up to take the map 16-8 and the series 2-1.

OG found their first-ever win on Ancient after defeating paiN. Aleksib led by example, making the B bombsite off-limits for the Brazilian squad as his team recovered from a 1-5 disadvantage. paiN performed better on the CT side but OG were able to exploit the A bombsite over and over again to take the map 16-13.

The series was decided on Inferno with OG comfortably taking a 11-4 lead on the offense as paiN was unable to keep the Europeans out of their bombsites despite Rafael "saffee" Costa's best efforts. The switch to the T side only resulted in two more rounds for the Brazilians as OG closed the map 16-6 and the series 2-0.

Proud of Lynn and it's great to finally see a team from my country finally win a map against a tier-1 (top 5 or 10) team.

Indeed! Congrats even though they lost the bo3! This must be a real motivational boost for them!

100% agree. Was very cool to see them take a map off a top 5 team. Future is bright.

Kind of cool to see a Chinese team take a map off a top 5 team. Nice to see another Chinese team besides Tyloo as well. Potential is good there.

First Ancient victory for the boys and good inferno as always. Saffee is a beast tho, single-handedly made the game a lot more dangerous #DreamOG

Maybe at some point an Asian team will finally win a Bo3 against a Tier 1 team. They should be proud, they put up more of a fight than usual, and a map off G2 is definitely impressive all things considered.

G2 made some crucial mistakes in this series to let that Vertigo go, but overall it wasn't that bad of a game as the score shows tbh. They looked better than at IEM imo. Good win for OG, but I still think that this roster reached their peak and are not going to go further only fall further with time. GG to both teams.

very nice try from lynn vision :(

G2, a team that can play a tight game with almost any team.

Still not very convincing from G2 they always struggle to win even in easier matches and against lower teams, they need make some change to bring some new air to the team especially the major is very close this version of G2 wont go anywhere if they stay like this

probably any changes will be done after the Major, man I agree they definitely don't look themselves anymore (at least the level they showed at IEM Cologne 2021) If they show some shaky results, then they should consider a change for one player to bring a true dedicated AWPer because Amanek has being whiffing a lot of shots with the AWP.
