K23 and 9z finalize IEM Winter Europe closed qualifier

The CIS and South American sides will have a shot to play at IEM Winter in December.

The second and final European open qualifier for IEM Winter has concluded, with K23 and 9z winning their respective brackets and advancing to the closed qualifier. They will join fnatic and FunPlus Phoenix, who qualified from the first open qualifier, as well as four invited teams Complexity, ENCE, MOUZ, and Spirit in a double elimination bracket to determine three teams that will advance to the IEM Winter LAN set to take place somewhere in Europe in early December.

K23 are quickly adapting to their new lineup

The second qualifier featured many upsets on the first day, seeing EXTREMUM lose to PARTIZAN, GORILLAZ lose to NYYRIKKI, and Galaxy Racer lose to naruto in the round of 64. OPAA defeated SINNERS in the round of 32, and Polish mix Exalted Industries took down both LDLC and the new-look MIBR.

K23 had a relatively easy path to the top four, needing only to beat xDDDD and PACT in the top 16 to face off against BLUEJAYS for a spot in the closed qualifier. The series against the Macedonian side was fairly straightforward for K23, with David "n0rb3r7" Danielyan carrying his team to a close victory on Inferno. K23's pick was much easier, despite some resistance from Aleksandar "CacaNito" Kjulukoski, and the CIS team swiftly took the series win.

9z had a much more hard fought path to the final, taking down two ESEA Premier-level teams, Finest and Wisla Krakow in the top 16 before meeting Major attendees Entropiq in the top four.

The Argentinian/Uruguayan/Brazilian team dominated on the first map of the final series, winning 11 rounds in a row in the middle of the game. Entropiq answered back on map two, Ancient, with their own decisive victory, despite both Maximiliano "max" Gonzalez and Franco "dgt" Garcia putting up big numbers. The decider Overpass was extremely back and forth, with no team winning more than five rounds in a row until the very end. Once again dgt was the difference maker for 9z, as they pulled ahead at the very end to take the series.

they don't speak portugese?

Yeah they speak “portuñol”, is like a mix between both, mostly Portuguese I think. But calling in Spanish would be a huge upgrade in communication, and he can be the link with zakk in Portuguese too. Also steel and zakk chemistry would be amazing because of their history together in Inmmortals but I don’t think they would change their team with these results
2021-10-17 00:08
Steel would be so fucking sick, I’m a huge fan of him. So fucking underrated… With try,dgt and max firepower he could do so much in 9z but I saw in Draft5 he’s joining Casemiro’s team with nqz, danoco,Honda and yepz. Such a shame

Yeah I like nqz but I don’t think that danoco+yepz+honda are promising to play against tier2/3 EU. I can’t understand how Case release n1ssim and keep yepz lol he was average in BR and in EU

Exactly my thoughts, if n1ssim was on the new lineup instead of yepz, It would make them at least able to hang some t3 teams I think.

Yeah I don’t know who is managing CS in Case. Also, it’s really weird that n1ssim didn’t get a team yet I think he got released and he is F/A

9z is legit. Had they been in the SA Qual i dont see how they wouldnt have qualified for the major. Hope they make it to the one in BR whenever that eventually happens. Try is nutttts.

When they beat vitality they had problems with the flights so they were not in time to play the first RMR of SA and they are only 2 or 3 rmr events in SA so that was the problem

This new K23 lineup actually looks good, they lost their most experienced players but they actually played well here, nice to see, deserved closed quali. 9z looks great honestly, the way they handled Entropiq is really impressive, I really think they should start playing in EU in all those Pinnacle cups and staff, it could get them to the next level really. GG to both teams, both deserved it!
