Copenhagen Flames make it to Legends Stage after comeback against Heroic

Rasmus "HooXi" Nielsen's boys win their second Danish derby in the Challengers Stage.

Copenhagen Flames join FaZe in the exclusive 3-0 club and prepare themselves for the Legends Stage after defeating domestic rivals Heroic 2-1. The Flames had a flawless first day in the Challenger Stage after taking down Danish giants Astralis before completing another upset against BIG.

Heroic were considered favorites from the start but were shocked on Vertigo 16-7 by the young Danes before Martin "stavn" Lund allowed them to equalize the series on Nuke 16-11. Despite a significant early advantage on Overpass Heroic failed to close out the series, falling short 16-12 and falling to the 2-1 pool.

nicoodoz proved crucial on Overpass

Copenhagen Flames surprised spectators once again after a strong showing on Vertigo against heavy favorites Heroic. Nico "nicoodoz" Tamjidi and Rasmus "Zyphon" Nordfoss powered a flawless CT side for the Flames, concluding a ten-round winning streak to close the map 16-7 and putting the Danes ever so close to a flawless Challenger Stage.

To avoid being the third team upset by Copenhagen Flames, Heroic needed a better performance on Nuke and they delivered. stavn provided 31 kills on the second map, shutting down any hopes of a sweep by the Flames as his team forced the decider after taking Nuke 16-11.

Heroic rushed into Overpass all guns blazing, quickly gaining a 8-0 advantage and seemingly cementing their place in the next stage of the Major. Copenhagen Flames clawed back a few T rounds before ending the half behind 5-10.

After switching sides the dynamics in the game changed heavily. The Flames won the CT pistol and slowly began chipping away at their deficit before some game-changing plays by nicoodoz and Fredrik "roeJ" Jørgensen secured their team the advantage. Copenhagen Flames did not let go of their lead, swiftly closing Overpass 16-12 and taking the series 2-1.

CPF are the definition of from zero to hero. I can't believe their incredible run, and I'm enjoying watching them so much not just because they are heavy underdogs, but also because of their fearless and unpredictable playstyle (retaking with awps, going hyper aggressive and catching every single timing). They seem to have an amazing chemistry while everybody's contributing, in spite of not having any standouts (except roeJ who's been incredible as well), and an average awper at best in nicoodoz. I am getting Gambit 2017 vibes from this team. Normally I would say that it's probably another fluke but... they have recently beaten: Gambit, Astralis, Big and now Heroic. I think they've got some more shockers prepared for group stage. Cheers to CPF and to everyone who had them at 3-0!

So what? It was still Gambit and a good accomplishment anyways
2021-10-27 18:39
Had them 3-0 randomly for investing more on the passing teams, so I got lucky.
2021-10-27 17:01
tbh they are not underdogs anymore it s more than 2 months they show really good level even if they loose vs top teams you can see they are maybe into top 10

Does that make him a good coach? I know Dennis in real life. Great person... But the fact they went with him and SPDR instead of a real coach made it a failure waiting to happen. VNG has not been coaching them at all according to the players themselves, and SPDR who are now getting kicked came with very little. They had so many opportunities to scout good and experienced coaches within the danish scene. We do have a lot of old players who became coaches, and even some coaches who have been grinding coaching for 5+ years in the national scene, where they're still beating Astralis Talent with less budget and less known players. Xlo who played with VNG would be suitable. Berry could've been a possibility. Haste could've been a possibility. Netrick could've been a possibility Phoey could've been a possibility. K0ste could've been a possibility. Fetish could've been a possibility. Sonic could've been a possibility. Trace could've been a possibility. Ave could've been a possibility. There's so many coaches in Denmark who had way more coaching experience and better results as a coach. They choose two rookies for Astralis Talent, and that backfired.

I am not saying he is the best choice, but calling him a "TV Personality" might be an understatement, he has experience

But not in this field. Being a former player doesn't make you a coach. For the past 10 years, he has been a TV personality. Nothing else.

It's cool to see Roej, the sort of odd-man-out of the Mad Lions team, really show up. All the other players went to bigger named teams, but he's already done better than all of them at this particular event. That has to feel a bit vindicating. Even if they bomb out at the next stage, he's got a lot to be proud of.

There are some young amazing talents in this Flames roster. I doubt they will make it to the Tier 1 scene and stabilize there, because I feel like the players are going to be reached out to by a lot of big names, and they should be. Really one of the most talented squads there is rn., and they prove it here again. Well done Flames! It was a great match, Heroic also played well, I'm sure they will make the Major to! Overall great derby and a great match. GG to both squads!
