Vitality to overhaul roster with Astralis trio for 2022 - Report

The French side will reportedly be going international, replacing Richard "⁠shox⁠" Papillon, Jayson "⁠Kyojin⁠" Nguyen Van, and Rémy "⁠XTQZZZ⁠" Quoniam with the estranged Astralis trio.

According to a report by 1pv.fr, Vitality will undergo an overhaul, bringing in Peter "⁠dupreeh⁠" Rasmussen, Emil "⁠Magisk⁠" Reif, and Danny "⁠zonic⁠" Sørensen once their contracts with the Danish organization expire at the beginning of 2022.

The report comes on the day following the French squad's elimination in the quarter-finals of PGL Major Stockholm at the hands of tournament favorites Natus Vincere, ending an overall shaky showing from Vitality in Stockholm, where they had to come back from a 0-2 start in the Legends stage to qualify for the playoffs.

dupreeh, Magisk, zonic are reportedly going to Vitality in a package deal

Should the move come to fruition, it will mark an end to shox's two-year tenure with the French organization, whom he helped win EPICENTER 2019, IEM Beijing-Haidian 2020, and BLAST Premier Fall 2020 Finals and finish runners-up at several other tournaments.

Kyojin joined the team in April to replace the now retired Cédric "⁠RpK⁠" Guipouy amid a difficult period for the team, from which they have only recently begun to recover with promising runs following the end of the player break, most notably placing second at ESL Pro League Season 14.

dupreeh, Magisk, and zonic were recently announced to be on the way out of Astralis, with the Danish side signing Kristian "⁠k0nfig⁠" Wienecke, Benjamin "⁠blameF⁠" Bremer, and Alexander "⁠ave⁠" Holdt in an overhaul of their own.

Vitality's reported roster for 2022 looks as follows:

M8, it was is first Major, I think we can't even be close to imagine how much pressure they have to handle, and if you watched each match, he was stepping up one after another, except against NaVi, it was maybe a bit early for him to play on such a big stage only after so little time with the team. I think DonHaskins is implying that Magisk is the only other plausible IGL besides apEx, hence his post. They might make Magisk the new IGL because he was the IGL for Astralis for a bit and did pretty good. Nobody else on that new internation roster can IGL besides apEx, and with apEx's fragging capabilities partially being consumed by his IGLing, he can go back to focusing on mostly fragging.

Both of them played pretty good? All things considered. Didn't play with an awper basically, Lucky is too bad to call one. Gla1ve and Xyp kept joining and leaving due to sick leave, Magisk went in as stand-in igl. Somehow still won 2020 best team. Pretty good tbh.

XQTZZZ is the only coach as good as zonic. The guy made vitality top 3 for 3 years in a row. Implemented 6 man roster in a viable way (was so good valve nerfed it). I think it came from the management. Apex and Xqtz were a super team and I don't think the main problem of vita was a matter of tactics/strats, but it was a offer you can't refuse. 3 "free" astralis guy are available. Also, marketing-wise, you have more potential for a broader fan club.

On paper, the new roster looks good, but synergy between igl and coach, between danish and French, im not sure. I dont think he had a lot of choices. Not a big french scene, expansive buyouts for the potential players. Kyojin was cheap and zywoo and misutaa came from nowhere too. Im pretty sure it is him who saw zywoo first. So, Xqtz had good intuitions, but kyojin was not his best move. Kyojin was improving though (except in the playoffs).
