Liquid eliminate NIP to secure BLAST survival
Keith "NAF" Markovic pulled a masterclass across the whole series to power his team to victory.
Liquid stay alive at BLAST Premier Fall Final 2021 after defeating NIP 2-1, sending the ninjas home with only one map to their name. The Swedish-Danish mix converted the opening map on Inferno 16-13 before being blown out the water by the North Americans on Mirage 4-16. The decider on Overpass saw Liquid complete the upset after locking down the CT side to end 16-11.
Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo's team go through to the lower bracket semi-finals after their first win at the event and now face an uphill battle if they are to remain in Copenhagen, facing Heroic on Saturday at 13:30 .
The elimination series got off to a great start with Liquid creating an early advantage on the CT side as NAF and Jake "Stewie2K" Yip made the B bombsite their property. The Scandinavian offense needed some time to warm up and as Nicolai "device" Reedtz began finding his rhythm they took control of the game, stringing five in a row before edging the half 8-7.
After switching to their preferred CT side NIP seemed more comfortable, especially after breaking the North American economy with a force buy victory on round 18. Despite NAF doing everything in his power to drag Liquid into overtime, Hampus "hampus" Poser sealed the deal 16-13 with an aggressive CT push.
It was definitely a Mirage to forget for NIP. hampus' squad seemed lost on the CT side as Liquid walked into both bombsites seemingly at will before hunting down any survivors to maintain the economic superiority over their adversaries. NIP won the last round of the half but it was just the consolation prize from a 4-11 half. The nightmare was not over for the Swedes as Liquid kickstarted the second half winning their fourth pistol round of the series before cruising to a very comfortable 16-4 win.
To decide the match both teams met on Overpass in a last-ditch attempt for tournament survival. NAF continued with his monster performance to drag Liquid out of an early disadvantage after conceding their first pistol round of the series. Patrick "es3tag" Hansen found comfort in front of his home crowd, dropping 19 frags in the first half as NIP edged the CT side 8-7. The North Americans retook control in the second half after settling in their defense, only conceding three rounds on their way to close the map 16-11 and the series 2-1.
