Vitality dismantle Astralis to secure upper semis at BLAST
The Frenchmen were unfazed by a very uninspiring Danish performance.
Vitality have claimed their first win at BLAST Premier World Finals after taking down Astralis 2-0. Dan "apEX" Madesclaire's boys opened up the series with a statement win on Nuke 16-4 before closing the series on Mirage 16-6.
The winners will face G2 and an on-fire Nikola "NiKo" Kovač in the next round of play to secure a spot in the upper bracket final. Meanwhile, Astralis will fight NIP in the lower bracket for tournament survival on Thursday.
Vitality executed a near-flawless CT side on Nuke as the combination of Mathieu "ZywOo" Herbaut outside and Kévin "misutaaa" Rabier on ramp completely shut down Astralis. misutaaa accumulated 20 frags in the first half of play, denying the Danes any chance to gain traction on the offense while powering his team to a 12-3 lead at halftime.
The struggles were not over for Astralis as a failure to claim the second pistol only made things worse for them. Vitality comfortably closed the second half 16-4, only conceding one round to a great A site hold from Philip "Lucky" Ewald.
The Frenchmen were not any kinder to Astralis on Mirage. Vitality claimed the opening pistol and began to cruise through the half, only conceding rounds to heroic plays from Benjamin "blameF" Bremer and Kristian "k0nfig" Wienecke.
This time, it was Richard "shox" Papillon's time to shine alongside ZywOo as the pair helped Vitality comfortably claim the first half 10-5. It was more of the same in the second half as a demoralized Astralis failed to make a dent in the French defense, claiming just one round on the T side before conceding the map 6-16 and the series 0-2.
