The eighth medal in 2021 sees Oleksandr "⁠s1mple⁠" Kostyliev set a new record for most MVPs earned in a calendar year by a single player.

s1mple has been named the BitSkins.com Most Valuable Player of the BLAST Premier World Final by HLTV.org following an unmatched individual display that led Natus Vincere to the title and $500,000 grand prize.

A menacing presence throughout the event, the Ukrainian superstar spearheaded his team's way through their impressive lower bracket run in Copenhagen with massive performances in every series following Natus Vincere's opening upper bracket loss to Liquid.

One of device's records falls as s1mple looks to break another

s1mple went above and beyond to bring the final trophy of the year to NAVI, averaging a staggering 1.51 rating in the lower bracket sweep that saw the world's best team take down Heroic, G2, Liquid, Vitality, and Gambit in five consecutive elimination series en route to the top spot on the podium.

Outside of topping the charts in overall rating (1.42), the 24-year-old scored several other No. 1 placings in the stats leaderboards, such as ADR (92.7), KPR (0.90), KAST (79.1%), and Impact rating (1.52), outdoing the likes of the other two big standout players of the tournament, Mathieu "⁠ZywOo⁠" Herbaut and Nikola "⁠NiKo⁠" Kovač, in each.

Securing the eighth MVP medal in 2021, s1mple has now beaten Nicolai "⁠device⁠" Reedtz's previous record of seven MVPs earned over a calendar year from 2018 and matched the Danish AWPer's 19 medals won in total as he looks set to break the overall record, as well.

Yes, he has beaten it, putting everything into context. 20 years old s1mple (2018) might have been a little more crisper, clinical, and more accurate than 2021 s1mple, mechanically speaking. He was also more effective in clutches in 2018, in general. But in terms of literally everything else, he's completely evolved as a player. His champion mindset, the so-called "grindset" is what sets him apart. Unlike the past s1mple, he doesn't make his teammates look average, but instead helps them shine in their roles. He does so much for the team both inside and outside the game - "s1mple formula" documentary showed how much he's changed. He's broken tons of world-records this year and has been unbelievably consistent and godlike, just in a different way. I so wanna call him the GOAT lmao.

2 things to consider when answering this question: the actual level of skill in 2018 vs 2021 s1mple's peak proportional to other players at the time the first one is clear; s1mple is a better player today than in 2021. The scene has evolved and matured further since then and the level of play generally gets higher every year. His opponents are tougher. He is however still better then 2nd one that is more debatable: 2018 s1mple was absolutely other worldly and he was solo carrying NaVi basically. It's possible than s1mple was even better compared to other players back then than he is better than them today

He already has. There's no argument. After now winning a Major without dropping a map - he is the single best player to ever touch CSGO.

Most MVPs? Done Most Top1/Top2? Done Best stats? Done Highest individual performance in CSGO history? Done 2nd highest individual performance? Also done xD Most Esports awards? Done Won every big trophy in CS? Done Tons of world records and memorable plays? Done But he doesn't have the most Major MVPs (both device and Coldzera have 2 each). Once he beats that, s1mple has no competition anymore, individually speaking.

Majors are a difficult part as nowadays we have only 1 per year it seems. If there were 3 this year like previously I have no doubts Navi would've taken at least 2
