Extra Salt release MarKE

The Mexican player will be allowed to explore other options without the weight of a buyout on his shoulders.

Extra Salt have announced that they have parted ways with Edgar "MarKE" Maldonado, bringing an end to his ten-month tenure on the team and allowing him to explore options free from a contract heading into the 2022 season. He is the second player to officially depart the roster after Josh "oSee" Ohm was signed by Liquid at the end of December.

The announcement follows in the wake of a report from HLTV.org that indicated that the remaining trio of players on the Extra Salt starting roster were in talks to join Complexity alongside Paytyn "junior" Johnson and Michael "Grim" Wince, a deal that we know to be nearing completion.

MarKE departs Extra Salt after ten months with the organization

MarKE has been a part of Extra Salt since March 2021, joining the team in place of Ian "motm" Hardy. Since his arrival, the team firmly established a place in the upper echelon of North America, dominating a majority of domestic tournaments and securing title wins in DreamHack Open March and June, as well as a runner-up finish in the FunSpark ULTI Europe Final.

The team also attended a number of notable tournaments in Europe throughout the last year, but were unable to manage any deep runs. More recently, they qualified for ESL Pro League Season 15 via the Conference stage, although their spot in the event is now in question as the majority of the roster is set to move to Complexity, a Louvre Agreement team who hold a partner spot in the league.

With reports of new North American lineups also emerging, MarKE will have some options to consider, having been a stable presence for Extra Salt throughout his tenure as he averaged a 1.11 rating over 277 maps. The organization, meanwhile, should still be left with Aran "Sonic" Groesbeek under contract as they consider options for the new year, teasing news of a roster announcement next week.

For now, Extra Salt are left with:

South Africa Johnny "JT" Theodosiou
Canada Justin "FaNg" Coakley
United States Ricky "floppy" Kemery

South Africa Tiaan "T.c" Coertzen (coach)

South Africa Aran "Sonic" Groesbeek (inactive)

He's not American, how the fuck could he be African American? You are literally just saying two white people are the most important/beautiful African Americans, going out of your way to be racist. No one asked and you still brought it up. You should video game yourself.

American citizen. How am I racist? Maybe MLK? But he didn’t do remotely anything close to help people than Elon. And if you’re saying white, so was Obama. I can’t give a logical opinion without being called racist? Name one more important African American.

+1, sick idea. Personally I'd replace dav1g as deathzz is a wild card that can rip up the server sometimes, while dav1g never has. There may be some role issues but tbh I don't watch movistar enough to comment on that definitively
2022-01-07 21:39
1 reply
I agree. Deathzzz look more promising. I think it is more a matter of lacking experience or been too stressful. Even as support, marke is better than davig. He just looks flat, uninspiring. I dont look enough Movistar to tell roles. I think Alex is entrying, mopoz second or lurk, deathzz lurk or second and davig support.
2022-01-07 23:47
Wow that would make total sense! Actualy a very good idea!

Honestly, if they took Steel who didn't speaking spanish (my guess), why don't pick up a mexican player ? The guy is free, had lan experience/ t2 eu, was hard entry (one of most difficult role) and won't ask for much. It'll be a shame. Maybe, marke want to stay in NA, but at the same time, ES travelled a lot to EU.
2022-01-08 03:28
1 reply
That would be a very big missed opportunity if Movistar doesn't make this move. Marke is ready, speaks spanish as nativa language and is a good player, considering what you have on Movistar. If he's willing to grind up to T1, then he'll be willing to move to EU.

Legit one of the biggest wastes of talent in the NA scene rn. The dude has had 10 different fuckin teams in the last 4-5 years, and has only looked better and better. Liquid fucked up in not signing this guy over shox, the man could single handedly activate someone like elige without taking up too much space imo.
