WePlay Academy League Season 3 group stage comes to an end

The four teams for the LAN finals are now set after the tournament's online stage.

MOUZ NXT, BIG Academy, Astralis Talent and Spirit Academy all punched tickets to the WePlay Academy League Season 3 Finals, set to take place in Kyiv on February 11-13.

MOUZ NXT and BIG Academy both did so as the top-seeded teams in their groups, with the international squad winning seven out of their eight maps played, while the Germans tied with Young Ninjas at 15 points apiece, but topped the group thanks to a 2-0 face-to-face scoreline.

MOUZ NXT are gunning for the three-peat

The other two teams were decided through a play-in, which saw the lowest-placed teams play through a lower bracket against progressively higher placed teams from the group stage.

One of the brackets saw VP.Prodigy take out FURIA Academy and NAVI Junior before falling to another CIS squad, Spirit Academy, who were the strongest team in the group stage behind MOUZ NXT, in the final for a spot in the LAN finals.

The other gauntlet saw Astralis Talent pull off massive upsets, taking out all of the higher-seeded teams, fnatic Rising, NAVI Junior and Young Ninjas, to qualify for the event in Ukraine, making this the organization's first Academy League LAN final appearance.

Notable performances were put on by Spirit Academy's 17-year-old sensation Aleksandr "KaiR0N-" Anashkin, the highest-rated player in the stage with a 1.38 rating, followed by MOUZ NXT's newest addition, Miłosz "mhL" Knasiak, who came in second averaging 1.35.

Rounding out the top three rated players is NAVI Junior's Daniil "headtr1ck" Valitov, who improved last season's 1.21 rating to 1.32 this time around despite his team ultimately not being able to qualify for the offline event.

The teams that will be at the WePlay Academy League Season 3 LAN finals in Kyiv are:

Yeah , but i thought that torzi's proportion to team 1 will destroy the mouz nxt team chemistry, also the coach as well but there guys either the competition is low or they are very good.

I think the fact that they added an awper who is from the same nation as the IGL is a big part of it. When you are bedding in a new impact player, it's key for them to be on the same page as the leader. I think the fact that the core is now three poles allows for them to sort things easier. Think about how easier it is to communicate ideas in your native language.

Yes, but that is in game. I am talking about practice. What about when they are going over playbook? Or when they want to discuss game philosophy, it is easier in their own language. Plus, if you havn't seen yet- when they are in clutches, they will speak native. Take G2 for an example. Do you really think NiKo and Hunter don't speak their home language when they are in a 2v2? They definitely do (and there's nothing wrong with that)

I'm amazed Mouz only promoted one player, they could have saved a lot of money and effort by pulling a Gambit and promoting their whole academy team

But the roster itself still is, or at least I think that dexter has to go. He doesn't fit this team and frankly I don't value him that much as an IGL. I'd rather have siuhy, he looks more promising.

Fair enough, but promoting szejn wouldn't have been a bad idea, either. He's a good support.

I thought he was nearly at the end of his contract? I'm doubtful they got a lot of money

Idk but JKS signing failed cuz of the money issue that is why they got NBK.
2022-01-17 15:24
they needed an experienced player, so they got NBK. decent move imo, because otherwise frozen/dexter would be the most experienced player. gambit had hobbit, a major winner. gambit youngsters didnt break out until they dropped supra for hobbit - i assume the boost in experience is what transformed them into a tier 1 team
2022-01-17 08:07
1 reply
Maybe, but at the same time NBK hasn't played an official match since like may I think? They already have Dexter and Frozen, who are relatively experienced in their own right
2022-01-17 14:37
they still have frozen in their main roster tho who is only 19 with a lot of potential

Because Mouz nxt takes academy league too serious and transfers better players from other teams.

Young ninjas and fnatic rising KEKW
2022-01-16 23:54
Most exciting teams in the LAN finals are defo Spirit and Astralis. Spirit mainly because Kairon is such a sick explosive player and Astralis who somehow beat 3 pretty good rosters in a row.

Ye, while I love the idea of academy teams and weplay for having those academy only tournaments with great production too, im quite dissapointed that there are no rules regarding age tbh, i thought the aame when navi jr played with flamie, like wtf. But on the other hand its the same in football, the 2nd teams especially in shit leagues like romania have some people that are not good enough for first league i guess, but i would still love a rule for age for this types of rosters as i dont think any tier 1 team will promote a 25+ year old from academy to main team anyway and they just waste the spot of a younger player who did not have achance yet

one guy can be older only, and that's actually a good thing because he can help the young guys develop in ways that they would not with 5 complete rookies on a team.
