Entropiq eliminate G2 from EPL playoff contention; secure top three with fnatic

Nikola "NiKo" Kovač and company let substantial leads slip throughout the series, with the loss leaving them unable to make the playoffs.

Entropiq are through to the playoffs of ESL Pro League Season 15 after coming out on top of a hard-fought series against G2, recovering from 7-14 and 8-13 scorelines on Dust2 and Nuke to narrowly edge out a 2-1 win over the international squad.

The loss is particularly heartbreaking for G2, who were looking to bounce back from a dismal series against fnatic on Friday following the return of in-game leader Aleksi "Aleksib" Virolainen. They were already teetering on the brink of elimination ahead of the match against Entropiq, and although a win wouldn't have guaranteed them a spot in the playoffs, it was entirely required if they hoped to remain in contention.

Entropiq's victory guarantees both them and fnatic a spot in the playoffs, with the two teams set to face off on Sunday at 19:30 to determine which of them will secure the second seed out of Group A. Ninjas in Pyjamas have firm hold of the top seed as they remain undefeated and hold head-to-head wins over both Entropiq and fnatic, while MOUZ, G2, and Looking For Org are all out of contention heading into the final day of play.

Entropiq are through to the playoffs of ESL Pro League Season 15

G2 got off to a hot start on Entropiq's map pick of Vertigo, a triple kill from Nemanja "huNter-" Kovač in the pistol round and against an ensuing force buy helping to provide momentum for a 5-0 start. The team quickly hit a stumbling block though, garnering just two more rounds in the half — one thanks to a quad kill from Audric "JACKZ" Jug — as Entropiq had a resurgence, narrowly pulling ahead 8-7 at the break.

Aleksei "NickelBack" Trofimov's side further extended their lead following the side swap, winning six of the first seven rounds to put up a commanding 14-8 scoreline, but G2 were unwilling to let the map simply slip away. Powered by Ilya "m0NESY" Osipov, the international composition fought all the way to overtime, where the teams remained deadlocked into another set of extra rounds before G2 were able to narrowly emerge as the victors.

Dust2 started off in similar fashion as G2 once again claimed an early lead, NiKo stepping up alongside m0NESY as the team went up 6-2. Entropiq fought back in the latter portion of the half as they stabilized on the defense, but were still left trailing by a single round heading into the break.

On the CT side, G2 regained control and turned the pressure up, securing six rounds in a row for a 14-7 lead. A mere two rounds separated the team from a series victory, but Entropiq were unrelenting and capitalized on holes in the G2 defenses, managing to even the score to 14-14. A crucial triple kill from Aleksib helped to deny a bomb plant as G2 finally made it to match point to break the tie, but their woes continued as they let the map slip into overtime, where Entropiq came out on top thanks in part to an ace from Vladislav "Krad" Kravchenko on the B bombsite.

Heartbreak continued on Nuke, and it was the exact same story for G2 as they were unable to capitalize on a considerable lead. This time, Entropiq were the ones to pull ahead early on, but G2 fought back and ended up winning the half by making up for a 1-5 start, taking eight rounds in a row for a strong lead at halftime. A back-and-forth brawl unfolded following the side swap, and even though G2 were the ones to come out on top of the exchange, their 13-8 lead began to rapidly dwindle as Entropiq put up a stalwart defense, mirroring G2's efforts in the first half by winning eight in a row to lock them out of the map and steal away the series win.

People still struggle to accept that Entropiq is a good team. They are a bit inconsistent but still one of the better T1.5 -2 teams.
2022-03-13 01:24

I think the most impressive part of them is that it is a team effort and they do not need to rely on individuals stepping up. Niko and M0nesy were the best players on the server, but Entropiq was simply the better team. Very impressive to watch and, despite the close score line, this was no fluke. Hoping that they are able to become a consistent top 10 team with more hard work.

Their team is well balanced. The one concern is that it looked like they might have reached their ceiling in performance when they got into top 10. They need few guys like Forester and Elian to reach new level.

I respectfully disagree. They are exemplary tier 1.5 team - they are close but not there yet. While some use top 8 or top 10 to define tier 1, there are a lot of movements at the bottom of top 10 and teams usual don't stay there for long. Another and better definition is being real contender to win a major event.

I see, so your criteria to determine tiers is different than mine. I dont think tier 1.5 exists. So whichever team is top10 and consistently gives trouble to top3 teams are tier 1 for me but I see where you are coming from.

I'm not sure about aleksib's future on G2 if he keep fragging like that. 48 kills in more than 100rounds. That such a low impact. Also choke factor is still there, like he bring it to G2 from OG. Lol. For some reason, I think either Nexa or amanek will win it for G2. xd

Also, G2 lost 2 games with no IGL and no practice with stand-in (even Amanek is actually benched, he is a stand-in nonetheless). If you were expecting a "jks firepower performance*", sorry, but u r AMANEK_ DELUSIONAL_FANS This G2 performance is expected considering the circumstances. *If instead ropz or rain, karrigan tested covid positive, FaZe wouldn't made it to hte final. An I'm a Twistzz/ropz fan <3

anyone who is above faceit level 3 agrees. The guy can't hold his weight against tier4/5 opposition, every tier1 match looks like 9 NHL players and then there's aleksib with his high school figure skating background

if you are a g2 "hater" yes very funny indeed to see them being destroyed aleksi is "decent" but far from good enough for a team that is aiming for the #1 spot, they will never achieve that with him
2022-03-13 13:27
Damn, wanted to see em losin the bo5 final again :((

entropiq on full power = dangerous
2022-03-13 12:36
what a masterclass of choking from G2. clap clap
2022-03-13 13:42
I actually thought that 2022 would be a G2-year. I was so wrong. I Think its a shame. I enjoy watching niko and monesy play and they will be missed. But the three other bots on the team are trash. G2-org. Richest org, right?

i did. he has his moments, i will admit that. but that can be said about a lot of players. but he cant seem to stay on point. you never really know what to expect from him. if you cant acknowledge that, then keep laughing.

"his moments" oh man, the guy has moments but those are the moments when he is not top form, that is true XD just looking at katowice and now epl hunter have been more than consistent, btw he is top 12 player of the year for a good reason, but say what you want i guess against nip he just had a moment too, sadge

That's an upset that I didn't expect, Entropiq just shows that even if you don't have great individuals, if you put time into it, work together and build chemistry you can even make playoffs of EPL with a roster not build up of stars let's say, I doubt they can be Tier-1 but seeing them making playoffs makes me really happy, GG boys. For G2 I don't even know how to comment it, the players are looking great, they're playing really good individually and it's still not enough to beat Entropiq, I mean, there is insane amount of talent in G2 team, but man do they suck as a whole, this just shouldn't be like this, I feel like they lost great support player after benching AmaNEk, I think that was a mistake.

aleksib had covid, so he can't control the team well. Normally 2-0 for G2. Aleksib god IGL.
2022-03-14 01:40
Worst rostermoves : ENCE -aleksib G2 +aleksib
2022-03-15 17:07
AleksiB exposed again but because he has nice hair, analysts and casters will still say he is top 3 IGL smh
