Pinnacle announce $250,000 LAN in Sweden; Heroic, fnatic, Imperial invited

Eight teams will battle it out in front of up to 7,500 viewers in the Sparbanken Skåne Arena.

Pinnacle, in partnership with Black Molly Entertainment and the City of Lund, have announced the Pinnacle Cup Championship, a $250,000 LAN tournament that will take place in the Sparbanken Skåne Arena from June 8-11 in Lund, Sweden.

The event will feature a total of eight teams, three of whom have already received invites to compete: Heroic, fnatic, and Imperial. The remaining distribution of slots was not revealed, although the organizer did state that "additional invites will be revealed in the upcoming weeks."

Heroic have received a direct invite to the LAN event in Sweden

The Pinnacle Cup Championship will mark the culmination of over two years' worth of Pinnacle-backed events that have been run in collaboration with GRID. In the announcement, it was revealed that two more Pinnacle Cups would take place ahead of the scheduled LAN tournament, further details of which are expected to be announced in the near future.

"Pinnacle Cup Championship is a testimony of the shared, long-term vision we have been committed to together with Pinnacle from the beginning of our cooperation," Tom Warburton, COO of GRID Esports said in a press release. "Now Pinnacle Cup has evolved into a firmly established esports tournament attracting multiple world's foremost teams. We aim to reinforce this position with the upcoming LAN event in Lund."

Both are old legends of the game. Maybe the difference isn’t as big as we would believe. Also, I assume you can qualify to the event so there are chances there. Anyways on paper assuming this is more of a t1.5 event both would realistically place last or 5-6th (irrelevant).

Every team is "inconsistent" now. That word barely carries meaning anymore. Especially in the T2 scene. Look at top30 to top18. All inconsistent, Dig beat those teams daily, aswell as lose. Realistic rank is 18, at lowest 21. All teams below that are worse then Dig.

Imperial invite is questionable considering the fact that theres at least over 30 teams which deserve the invite more, but I dont even care because they're gonna be fun to watch (and tbh probably will be the only memorable thing about this entire tournament)

It is quite obvious that aside from being a wildcard spot, they will bring a lot of views on their stream + partners. Also, I see this event is 3 days right after IEM Dallas, so it might be the case that they don't have many teams to invite.

Depends how you look at it. Malmö is famous for being the nr1 crime city in Sweden. But in the past 2 years its been very quiet from them compared to before. But Skåne is so much more, there are many small cute towns and medium sized cities. It looks different from the rest of Sweden, its mostly flat and lots of fields + beaches just like Denmark. When you go up north in Sweden the nature completely changes.
