NAVI cruise past Evil Geniuses with a 2-0 win

The CIS squad made light work of the North Americans and now sit at the top of the group with a 2-0 record.

Natus Vincere, who are playing with NAVI Junior player Daniil "⁠headtr1ck⁠" Valitov in place of their IGL Kirill "⁠Boombl4⁠" Mikhailov, have continued their ESL Pro League Season 15 campaign with another victory, this time getting the better of Evil Geniuses. Their chances of getting through the group now look very favorable, with games against Complexity, Astralis and Heroic still awaiting them in the group stage.

For Evil Geniuses, this means that they sit at the bottom of the group with an 0-2 record, with the roster yet to put up results that are expected from a team of such accomplished players. Qualifying for playoffs seems like a hard task for the team, which is made even harder by the fact that their coach Damien "⁠maLeK⁠" Marcel is unable to stand behind them for the duration of the group stage due to returning to France to receive medical treatment not related to COVID-19. Their next game will pit them against Heroic on Friday at 16:00 , where they will hope to get their first win of the group.

maLeK to miss EPL group stage

The game started on Evil Geniuses’s map pick of Overpass, where Natus Vincere wasted no time on getting started, winning the pistol round and converting it to a 6-1 start before the Jake "⁠Stewie2K⁠" Yip led team won their first gun round. The North American’s slow start continued all throughout the first half as they simply couldn’t find success on the terrorist side, as the 18 kills by Oleksandr "⁠s1mple⁠" Kostyliev helped close out the half with a 13-2 score. The game didn’t look any different after half time, as the CIS squad won the pistol round with three kills by who else than s1mple and didn’t look back after that, winning the map 16-2.

S1mple was the top rated player in the series, achieving a 1.79 rating

Next was Dust2, which the team picked to make headtr1ck more confortable, as s1mple said in the interview. The second map started in similar fashion to the first one, with Natus Vincere starting on the terrorist side this time but still getting of to a fast start and a 6-1 lead. Andrey "⁠B1ad3⁠" Gorodenskiy’s men stayed in control during the half, but Evil Geniuses did show some glimpses of success, winning a few rounds in close fashion and managing to end the half with a slightly more respectable 11-4 score in the favor of Natus Vincere.

Evil Geniuses managed to build on a decent first half, even though a missed smoke caused them to lose the pistol round. They fought back with a force buy win and won six rounds in a row, pulling back the scoreline to 12-10. But once Natus Vincere got a hold of their economy, they stabilised and closed out the map 16-10.
