Spirit qualify for Legends Stage, Astralis sent to 2-2 pool

The Russians join G2 and Vitality as one of the teams that have made it out of the Challengers Stage.

Spirit become the first team from the 2-1 pool to secure their spot in the Legends Stage of the PGL Major Antwerp after having beaten Astralis in two maps, 16-12 on Overpass, and a dominant 16-6 on Ancient.

Astralis will be fighting for their Major lives after falling to Spirit as their record stands at 2-2 going into an all-or-nothing final day of the first stage.

Spirit sweep Astralis and claim a Legends stage spot

Astralis opened their spot-deciding series against Spirit with strong map control on Overpass, making it extremely difficult for the Russians to get onto site as Lukas "gla1ve" Rossander's squad cruised to an early 6-1 lead. Leonid "chopper" Vishnyakov and company started to find their footing by winning the next four out of five rounds against the Astralis defense in an impressive recovery late in the half.

The Danes closed out the opening period by managing to once again defend the bomb site well against Spirit's attacks behind Benjamin "blameF" Bremer's triple-kill in the 14th and a 1vs3 clutch and defuse from Asger "Farlig" Jensen in the 15th round.

The second half began with a dominant showing from Spirit, as the chopper-led squad completely shut down Astralis' T side efforts in the first eight rounds after the swapping of sides. gla1ve's men brought their tally up to 12 after two successful bomb explosions, however it would end up being merely a consolation as Spirit never let their foot off the gas in a remarkable 16-12 comeback win on their map pick.

degster's proficiency with the AWP was on full display in Overpass

Both Spirit and Astralis kicked off Ancient with six extremely competitive rounds, highlighted by an ace from Kristian "k0nfig" Wienecke in the fifth and exceptional utility usage from the two sides. Spirit then started to string rounds together, including a successful 2vs4 retake from chopper and Boris "magixx" Vorobiev, which allowed them to pull ahead of their Danish opponents and attain a 10-5 lead over Astralis at halftime.

Spirit delivered a nearly flawless T side performance coming out of the break as the Danes had practically no answer the firepower shown by Robert "Patsi" Isyanov and the rest of his team, ultimately wrapping up Ancient 16-6 and the series, 2-0.

Looks like coach don't mean as much when he can't really talk outside of timeout or even scream "Nice!" or give high five between the rounds as people on HLTV forums thought, huh?

unconvincing run at RMR and the fact that they don't have a coach with them made me write them off from the major and i didnt even have a single thought that they are able to pass to the next stage. Congratulations!

Pride doesn't feed a guy in his late 20s with no degrees or work experience. He has to build his bank and milk every cent.
