ENCE make Legends Stage, MIBR eliminate Eternal Fire

ENCE and MIBR picked up wins to close day three of the PGL Major Antwerp.

ENCE justified their status as one of the dark horses for the Major title, qualifying for the Legends Stage by defeating Bad News Eagles, whilst over on the B stream MIBR kept their Major hopes alive by besting Eternal Fire.

The favourites ENCE were made to work for it by their Kosovar opponents on Dust2, who saw a monumental comeback falter due to some key mistakes. Over on Nuke, ENCE were comfortably the better side, despite some attempted heroics from Flatron "juanflatroo" Halimi.

Spinx was, as usual, the highest rated player for ENCE

Fan favourites Eternal Fire were eliminated in similar fashion, failing to complete a comeback on their own map of Vertigo, before MIBR comfortably dispatched them on Nuke. MIBR had two huge performances to thank for the victory, from Jhonatan "JOTA" Willian on Vertigo and Matheus "Tuurtle" Anhaia on Nuke.

On the A stream the series opened with the Bad News Eagles' pick of Dust2, and a fast-paced, high octane map ensued. Starting on the T side the Kosovars couldn't get anything going in attack, ENCE repeatedly reading the offense like a book and pushing early to grab information and flank kills; combined with some stellar AWPing on A from Olek "hades" Miskiewicz, it was too much for Bad News Eagles to handle. Three isolated rounds were all Dionis "sinnopsyy" Budeci and co. could find as ENCE dominated the first half 12-3.

Roles were reversed as the teams switched sides, this time Bad News Eagles putting up a defensive wall as they looked to recover the immense deficit they faced. They picked up 10 of the first 11 rounds, adopting a similarly combative style on their defence as ENCE had, and doing so with aplomb.

What ultimately turned the tides in the closing stages of the game were a couple of key mistakes from Bad News Eagles, with sinnopsyy fumbling a B hold and some missed grenades giving ENCE all they needed to close the game out, 16-13.

ENCE kicked off their map pick of Nuke on the T side, and they started off at an 0-3 deficit after Bad News Eagles won the pistol and converted. Once the guns came up the European squad began to display their prowess on this map, with several upper hits leaving their Kosovar counterparts reeling.

Fortunately for Bad News Eagles juanflatroo was on a heater, and he managed to secure a few rounds off his own back, racking up well over 100 ADR in the process. It wasn't enough however, ENCE running away with the latter part of the half by picking up all five of the final rounds, finishing with a huge 9-6 T half.

juanflatroo posted a huge triple kill to earn Bad News Eagles a pistol win to open their offense, but ENCE immediately broke back, making the rest of the half realistically a forgone conclusion; ENCE duly closed the game out with minimal fuss, 16-9 the final score.

Vertigo, the pick of Eternal Fire, opened the series, and the Turks were left rueing their pick. MIBR started the game on fire on their defence, particularly JOTA, racking up a 7-1 lead before Eternal Fire really got into the game. A long tech pause seemed to give the Turks the breather they needed, and they managed to grab three of the next seven rounds to prevent a blowout, getting to a 4-11 half.

Eternal Fire won the pistol and converted to bring the map back into the balance, and although MIBR managed to grab a couple of rounds when the guns came up, JOTA cooling off was a big problem for the Brazilians as they struggled to gain any traction on their offense. The Turks managed to bring the score all the way back to 13-13 but just as it seemed they were going to ride the streak all the way to the map win, their defence collapsed, MIBR bagging the last three on the bounce to win their opponents map 16-13.

Next was the MIBR pick of Nuke, and the map began as a real back-and-forth brawl. Eternal Fire managed to pick up the first two before MIBR fought back, and round after round came down to retakes and clutch situations, with the Turks coming out on top but not as convincingly as they might have wanted, winning the favoured CT half 9-6.

MIBR were excellent on their defence, displaying real proficiency on Nuke by grabbing the first eight rounds without reply; Eternal Fire did show signs of life, but an Raphael "exit" Lacerda 1v2 clutch put an end to the Turks' hopes, the score ending 16-11.
