OG unveil academy roster featuring Marix

The latest entry to the Counter-Strike academy scene has been revealed.

OG Academy have announced the roster that will compete at WePlay Academy League Season 4. Their inaugural junior squad will consist of Max "⁠Marix⁠" Kugener, Arbnor "⁠Dementor⁠" Pacolli, Alexandru "⁠s0und⁠" Ștefan, Blagoi "⁠oxygeN⁠" Dimitrov and Kaloyan "⁠shaiK⁠" Borisov.

As announced in April, the team will be coached by Christian "⁠crisby⁠" Schmitt, a veteran of the German Counter-Strike scene. The coach was tasked with putting together a roster picked from several candidates that have trialed with the organization in the past weeks.

The former Sprout player is the biggest name on the team

One of the most recognizable names on the team is Marix. The Luxembourger rifler was until very recently part of Sprout, but was moved to the bench earlier in May after the squad's failure at the European Regional Major Ranking event. Joining him is Dementor, a Kosovar rifler with a 1.12 rating in 2022 that most recently competed for Lausanne SE, winning ESL National Championship Switzerland Spring 2022.

oxygeN played for several Bulgarian teams, including a three months stint with SKADE in 2021 while s0und was last seen competing under the allStars banner. Rounding up the roster is shaiK, another Bulgarian player.

“Finally able to present to you the prodigies that we have picked up. It was a long journey with open applications from February until now. We had above 400 applications that were trimmed down to 40 people. After that we had tryouts going on for about three weeks to find our final five," team coach crisby said in an announcement.

"I think we have good mix between really young 'unexperienced' and already more established players to do well in WePlay and other tournaments we might participate in. The goal is always to win but it is work and progress. I will give my best to bring the players to the next level and get them ready for the big boys in Tier 1."

The young roster is set to debut in a few hours at WePlay Academy League Season 4 against Eternal Fire Academy at 18:20 .

Exactly my point, 4/5 have Tier 3 experience and were 0.8-0.9 rating players + Marix who is better than the riflers in the main OG team lol

Marix has the potential to be better but he still needs experience. He‘s a great pickup for any international Academy team, in my opinion

I’m just sad he ended up in this team because he was already doing well in T2/3. Unlike the other players he doesn’t need to boost his stats playing against kids, he had a 1.10+ rating in Sprout (who play in Challenger League and all online cups, which means much better opponents and better development) and could have been considered by BIG in the future if he kept improving. Here there’s also nobody he can really learn from, I consider crisby a vastly inferior coach to Berry in terms of knowledge of the game.

My guess would be that he signed for the academy roster so he has a good chance to be part of the main team. If you look at mouz nxt for example JDC and torzi were way too good for academy teams and but after all they got a shot at the main team.

Yeah, this is so stupid. This is like purposely just making a tier 3 team. Like am I the only one that thinks ACADEMY teams should be filled with 14-17 yr olds that are actual possible prodigies? Not like this, theres like 10% chance any of these players make it to tier 1.. Sad shit and waste of resources.

I think some orgs don't know how to ACADEMY team works. It's not about to pick-up known players, it's to give a chance to a real prospects which you scouting. Have a feeling org just decided to get money from prize pools lmao
