Complexity fall to MIBR in Group B opening matchup
The opening matchups of the second group saw Cloud9, FURIA, MIBR, and BIG come out on top.
The first set of best-of-ones in Group B gave us no surprises as Cloud9 and FURIA came out victorious from their respective matches against Liquid and Imperial. The CIS squad played a solid game against the North Americans, earning a spot in the semi-finals of the group where they will face Andrei "arT" Piovezan's men following their victory in the Brazilian derby.
Meanwhile, the last set of BO1s had MIBR shock Complexity on Nuke. The Brazilians took the victory against the local squad despite coming into the event without much notice and while playing with their coach due to problems with Breno "brnz4n" Poletto's visa. The unlikely winners will face BIG following the German's victory over Ninjas in Pyjamas on the B stream while Complexity and Ninjas in Pyjamas fight for tournament survival in the lower bracket.

On the main stream, the home squad of Liquid faced off against Cloud9 on Vertigo. The Nick "nitr0" Cannella-led squad started well on the CT side, but their inability to contain Dmitry "sh1ro" Sokolov quickly led to their defense falling apart. The Russian core moved into the second half with a comfortable 10-5 advantage and it did not take long for them to extend their lead and covert the victory with a 16-6 scoreline.
FURIA started off Mirage by converting the opening pistol to claim the early advantage, quickly establishing themselves as the dominant power on the CT side. Everyone on the younger Brazilian squad was on point, but it was Yuri "yuurih" Santos and Rafael "saffee" Costa who stood out above the rest. Despite the commanding 12-3 half in favor of FURIA, several of the rounds came down to the wire, with Imperial often conceding post-plant scenarios and clutch situations. Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo's men would only get four rounds after switching sides and dropped to the lower bracket with a 9-16 scoreline.
Despite coming into the event with a last-minute invite and a coach standing in the server, MIBR did not fold against Complexity. The Brazilians took the early advantage and locked down the bombsites on Nuke, securing an 11-4 lead thanks to the performances of Jhonatan "JOTA" Willian and Matheus "Tuurtle" Anhaia. After a flat offensive half, the North Americans were not able to turn their fortunes around and conceded the second pistol round, clearing the way for MIBR to claim a 16-4 victory and a spot in the Group B semi-final.
Meanwhile, the last BO1 of the day saw BIG challenge Ninjas in Pyjamas on Ancient. The German squad opened up the match with a solid hold of the A site courtesy of a Josef "faveN" Baumann 2k with the USP-S. It took a moment for the Swedes to come online, but a series of hits on the B site halfway through the half allowed them to claim a few rounds on their way to a 6-9 half. Johannes "tabseN" Wodarz's men quickly extended their lead to 14-6 after moving to the T side. A short resurgence would see Ninjas in Pyjamas steal four rounds before Karim "Krimbo" Moussa was able to put an end to the match on the A bombsite.
