Snax stars as ENCE defeat FaZe to book semi-final spot
ENCE managed to defeat the reigning Major champions without their star player and will now skip the quarter-final game.
ENCE, who are playing without their highest rated player Lotan "Spinx" Giladi due to visa issues, managed to defeat the #1 team in the world and qualify directly to the semi-final of IEM Dallas. Spinx's replacement, Janusz "Snax" Pogorzelski, was particularly impressive as he was the highest-rated player on his team with a 1.27 rating.
The upper bracket final was contested between ENCE and FaZe, and it was the reigning Major champions who got off to the better start, going 11-4 up at half-time. ENCE gave a better account of themselves on their defensive side as they put together an eight round streak which proved too little too late in the end, as FaZe ended up 16-12 winners.
Next up was Ancient, and it was ENCE's turn to put together an impressive CT side, winning it 11-4 with Olek "hades" Miskiewicz impressive on the AWP as he got 25 kills in the half. Once the sides switched however, FaZe looked much more comfortable as a lack of Lotan "Spinx" Giladi's lurk plays, who is missing at the tournament due to visa issues, hindered the ENCE T side and the scores were quickly tied up at 12-12. The Marco "Snappi" Pfeiffer-led team found a second wind, however, winning the last four rounds to tie up the series at 1-1.
The deciding map of the series was Nuke, where FaZe had an eight map win streak in the last three months leading up to this game. But the ENCE CT side proved strong, racking up round after round on their way to a 11-4 half. A pistol round win and follow up round conversion got the majority Polish roster up to 14 rounds, before a late comeback attempt by FaZe made the scoreline respectable.
