FaZe take down Astralis to advance to Roobet Cup grand final

Finn "karrigan" Andersen's side will go up against BIG in a best-of-three to decide the title.

FaZe have advanced to the grand final of the Roobet Cup after claiming a 2-1 victory over Astralis, faltering on the Danish team's pick of Overpass before securing comfortable wins on Mirage and Dust2 to take the series.

The grand final on Thursday at 19:00 will see BIG and FaZe clash for the lion's share of the $250,000 prize pool, a match where FaZe will be looking to claim revenge after they lost to Johannes "tabseN" Wodarz's side in series play during the group stage. A win would also provide a boost in momentum for either team ahead of IEM Cologne, which kicks off in just under a week.

rain stepped up on Dust2 to help FaZe close out the series

A T side start for Astralis saw them begin the map on the right foot, a pistol round victory converting into a four-round lead before FaZe were able to respond. It was Håvard "rain" Nygaard who stepped up for the international mixture in their first rounds, recording back-to-back double kills and further adding to that with a triple kill as FaZe moved into the lead. Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken also helped to add to that tally, recovering a 3vs5 with three frags and adding a further triple kill round, with Astralis still keeping the scoreline close as they trailed by a single round heading into the break.

Five immediate rounds followed the side swap for Astralis, leaving FaZe staring down a deficit immediately. It seemed like they could make good on an effort as they fought to tie the score, managing to even it at 13-13, but it was Astralis who ended up taking the win as they put up a strong defense for three final rounds to edge out the win.

Mirage looked more like the FaZe of old though, with Robin "ropz" Kool's lurks paying off round after round for his team. Despite starting down 1-4, FaZe established clear dominance on the T side of their map pick, conceding just one additional round en route to a 10-5 lead thanks in large part to those very lurks from the Estonian star.

That momentum carried into the second half, where an early set of rounds helped to extend FaZe's edge before Astralis grabbed three rounds of their own; however, it wasn't long before karrigan's side moved up to match point, and victory followed soon after as they took the map 16-11 to force a Dust2 decider.

After some tense moments on the first two maps, Dust2 had little to write home about. Another early lead from Astralis rapidly dwindled away thanks to a stalwart defense from FaZe, with rain in particular stepping up en route to a 10-5 lead for his side. The second half offered little respite and even fewer opportunities for Astralis to come back, with FaZe quickly sealing the deal 16-7 to advance to the grand final.

I think this event will play into the rankings very little, doing well at cologne is what's going to allow them to stay on top or allow navi to take the title back

i know colonge is much more important, but still it's tier 1 event so maybe they get something

Yeah, I think winning this event will give them enough leeway to make top4 or something at cologne and still keep their #1 position

how is this a tier 1 event. No hate just this whole tournament is trash.

Hey, can you tell me what is 'bait' exactly? I saw many guys calling him BaitF but I don't know what that meme is
2022-06-30 15:04

Baiting is waiting for teammates to die, so you can get trades or easy kills later. Its a very stupid thing to say about pro players though, as they play in a system where such things are thought out prior to the games. BlameF used to be very passive as a t-side player, so people started calling him BaitF. Hes way more aggressive now, but people dont seem to care and keep calling him a baiter, even though hes clearly the carry of the team.

Carrying is a big word. He is saving most of the time. He is so afraid to take risks, it is crazy. He is the best player of this team, but his 1.20 rating is overblown. It should be 1.10 if he was playing for trades.

I dont know when this astralis project will be throw in the garbage. Honestly, they should rebuild from the scratch. Xypex is not even the weak link rn. Konfig is playing puggy, glaive t call are not working. Farlig is farlig, not a huge upgrade compared to lucky and blamef is the best player but still play like an one man army. Valde won't save this roster.

exactly for the past 2 playoff tournaments, he's been their 2nd highest-rated player, albeit in the negative...but the point is that spot is supposed to be filled by konfig or farlig
2022-06-30 06:06
well at this point there's really no differentiating factor between lucky and farlig. Both have 0 impact with the AWP, both were better off on rifles, both had these fantastic carry games that were very far and between...Astralis fucked up pretty bad by not getting a nicodoz

and unless they do something to get k0nfig's mojo back. fkin call him berserker or something all the time instead of calling him by his real name or something he can't allow xyp to out frag him it's legit his job
2022-06-30 09:43
Astralis really need to work on their map positions, on mirage they got caught in the open so many times for no reason its just painfull to see
2022-06-30 07:38
i think they gave enough time to farlig and he does not deliver so just replace him with dev already!!
