rain: "The main problem we have is that we haven't been able to play enough"

Major MVP Håvard "rain" Nygaard talks FaZe issues and his drop in performance since Antwerp, and IEM Cologne goals in our latest interview.

Still on top of the rankings but far from being an undisputed best team following title-less runs at IEM Dallas, BLAST Premier Spring Final, and the Roobet Cup, FaZe head into IEM Cologne hoping to rediscover the level that saw them win three consecutive trophies including the PGL Major in Antwerp earlier in the season.

A common thread in their statements has been that the Finn "karrigan" Andersen-led squad hasn't been able to refresh the playbook, and rain has echoed that sentiment in our interview with him in Cologne, where they have so far made it past 00NATION in the opening match.

The Norwegian said that not being able to put in the same hours as before the Major has been the main issue both for the team and for him, as he has dropped off from the MVP-winning form that saw him lead the team to the Antwerp title, now averaging a 1.01 rating at the past three tournaments.

rain says not being able to update the playbook and put in the hours has been the main problem for a FaZe

"What works for me is if I play a lot, and during the Major I had 120-130 hours and I was grinding all the time, and I haven't been able to reach those hours at all lately," rain said on the topic of his individual level.

"It's just been our individual form that hasn't been good enough to have those clutch moments, and it's what this team relies on," he went on to say when talking about some of the uncharacteristic leads FaZe have given up in recent times, such as 14-6 and 11-6 leads in two separate meetings with BIG at the Roobet Cup.

The Norwegian also addressed karrigan's comments back in Lisbon, where the in-game leader claimed he would see the season as a disappointment if FaZe don't reach the grand final in Cologne, and talked about the team's confidence heading into the season finale in our video interview, which you can watch in full above or on our YouTube channel.

PROBLEM IS (that) KARRIGAN lost motivation after winning major, he had won everything after it and he is 32 years old, at that age its hard to motivate yourself to play computer games. Now he seek thrill with matchmaking style igl instead of serious igl style, which obviously won't work and kills his teammate motivation also. They need to remove him and add for example NiKo as new IGL, s1mple solution

I like how people like to "excuse" NaVi for war issues but cant take FaZe's "excuse" for not having enough practice... they literally have attended all of the events and went all the way through 3 of them, no shit other teams are gonna counter them and also they are gonna feel a bit burnt out after achieving their life goal....give them a break

trauma yes for katowice makes sense, but now assuming that their family is in a safe place and now they are getting enough practice with not a lot much distractions per say of course still not maybe feeling 100% but its not like they lost to any other team then faze, they were still top2 team throughout, I mean they probably would have won EPL and major.. I obviously cant imagine how they feel but if we compare it with only "CS" terms like for ex- not having enough practice and what not then yes people do have double standards, maybe emotionally driven which is understandable.. [and also when I say excuse for NaVi, I meant Fan giving the excuses not the players themselves]
2022-07-08 17:26

2022-07-08 22:01
Up until the sdy change, NaVi had a lot of problems that were all a fallout of the war. But now NaVi look like the strongest team in the game. The problem is that Faze gave this excuse weeks ago. Back then it was valid, after winning the Major instantly into 2 back-to-back events, but surely by now they should've been able to play more. The weirdest thing though is that they were looking fine in their first game and it seems like an excuse before they fail. I personally wouldn't begrudge them (or NaVi) for not getting to the finals. The top teams are all so close to each other that it's hard to predict.
2022-07-08 18:46

For NAVI its a problem, but for faze its an excuse? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Anyway, faze smashed them EZ in the finals. So keep crying
2022-07-08 22:03
1 reply
The problem is 'Why were Faze not playinjg?' For both the ''We didn't get enough practice in' is an excuse, but I'm willing to forgive NaVi who have a tumultuous situation with a war going on and all the stress that surrounds it more than I'm willing to forgive Faze. I'm fine if Faze said "We won the Major, let's take it slowly for a couple of events," However, it's been 6 weeks, so I'd expect that by now they would think to kick back into gear for the final big event before the player break.

i guess its nothing to motivate them. After winning the three biggest tournaments so far, and the others just being qualifiers or tier two events or events where your igl doesnt arrive untill the day and is jetlagged, its hard to motivate yourself to give a damn about winning roobet or a blast qualifier that youve already qualified for
2022-07-08 17:02

We are talking about cologne - one of the most prestige tournaments in esports. If they wanted to rest they could withdraw from few useless tournaments such as dallas or roobet. At this point they are just making fools out of the fans and i dont know what could possibly bring their motivation back.

+1 They barely won Katowice vs a completely new G2, while also the invasion started and disabled ~5 CIS teams instantly. EPL was also close, just like the major with close games and not forget, the ban fail from Cloud9, which would have been a 1-2 score for Faze and almost dropping from major. then close games vs NiP, Spirit and even NaVi

It's been like what, two months, that faze players have been hinting their org in their interviews, just stop signing us up for every fucking event and give us time to practice. Faze org is too greedy to skip some tourneys? Considering how important Cologne is, they could've skipped fucking Roobet to get better practice.
