G2 send ENCE packing in Cologne

The world No.3 will be left disappointed by their performance at the last event of the season.

Two top-6 teams crossed paths in an early elimination game in the group stage of IEM Cologne, with G2 mustering a 2-0 win over ENCE to avoid a 13-16th place finish. G2 will be continuing their challenging run in the lower bracket gauntlet of group A where they will need to beat Ninjas in Pyjamas and one more team to secure a spot in the LANXESS Arena.

For ENCE, this result brings a strong season to a frustrating finish, as after a second-place at IEM Dallas and a peak HLTV world ranking, the international squad finished 5-6th at BLAST and were now eliminated from IEM Cologne without a single win. The loss against G2 will leave a particularly bitter taste in their mouth as Marco "Snappi" Pfeiffer and co., had good first halves on both Dust2 and Ancient, but ran out of steam after the switch.

NiKo's Ancient demo will be in high demand

A blazing-hot Olek "hades" Miskiewicz got ENCE off to a spectacular start on Dust2, their opponents' map pick. The Polish AWPer sometimes criticized for his performances against top teams boasted a 12-0 K-D as his team took an 8-0 CT side lead, but ENCE failed to hold on to that momentum. A pistol-buy B hit worked out for G2 and Nikola "NiKo" Kovač followed it up with a 1v2 clutch as his team fought back into the half for a 9-6 finish.

Aleksi "Aleksib" Virolainen's men won the second pistol, but Lotan "Spinx" Giladi's Deagle quad kill put ENCE back into the driver's seat, and at 12-7, they looked good to close out map 1. However, G2 would secure 12 unanswered kills across the next three rounds, snowballing into a stronghold of a CT side. Snappi struggled to find holes in the defenses and ultimately ENCE capitalized on Dust2, 16-13.

It was time for NiKo to remind everyone why he is considered one of the greatest CS:GO players of all time as the Bosnian put on a masterclass on Ancient. He secured multikills in the first five rounds and didn't slow down for the rest of the CT half, but ENCE still managed a strong offense, earning eight for their efforts.

With the Bosnian sharpshooter continuing to find impact all over the place, G2 looked unstoppable on the Terrorist side. Six rounds in a row put ENCE on the back foot and fighting for survival in the tournament at 13-8. Ilya "m0NESY" Osipov's quad kill ensured the 14th in a back-and-forth round and made it smooth sailing towards a 2-0 victory.

Hunter and niko are wasting their prime playing with jackz and aleksi. If only G2 replaced them with slightly better players G2 could be a consistant top 3 team

You didn't watch the game. I'll tell you that Aleksi's call were great in this one, the T rounds were very very solid.

I did watch, he still bottom fragged the series plus ence has been in a slump for the last several weeks. If he has a good map calling-wise once in every five than that is a problem

I'm a G2 fan believe it or not, I just think aleksi and jackz both need to go with their 0.95 ratings
2022-07-08 23:48
they won 9 t-side rounds on ancient back to back, aleksi's calling was definitely a major contributor to this
2022-07-08 22:42

Sure, but one good map doesn't make up for 5 maps when he doesn't call well, plus when he bottom frags as well. And those maps are more common than the ones where he calls well and frags well
2022-07-08 23:06

is that bottom fragging so big deal when they wins and niko takes 30 and monesy came up to server. and aleksi has been great since antwerp and aswell g2 been better.

you say that it was "robbed" only because g2 won the following round after the tech pause. Admins followed the rules by restarting the round
2022-07-09 00:28
I believe they can be in 3-4 place if monEZy will continue to show steady performance. LETS GO G2!

This is the NiKo that inspired me to be a rifler. Go G2!
2022-07-09 02:25
People don´t understand how hard it can be to become the IGL of monsters like Niko and Hunter as a new member, Alexi did raise his IGLship to a new level recently and it will get only better. Also his firepower went up from "noob" to...something...better. They need time to gel, that´s all. I heard predictions at the beginning of the year about G2, and they were so spot on, saying that we don´t have to expect big things from G2 this year, which is 100% spot on, and re-mixing the roster again would fk up the next 5 months for sure. Let them play, let them gel, and the machine will roll 100%
2022-07-09 10:58
this was prime G2 performance, everyone did their jobs perfectly, i really hope they can do it more consistently
