IEM Rio Major qualifier details announced; registration open
The first set of qualifiers kick off on August 15.
The qualifier dates and registration links for the IEM RIo Major have been announced by ESL, taking place across seven regions and encompassing 18 open qualifiers and four closed qualifiers to determine the path to the November Major.
In Europe, four open qualifiers will be held to determine a total of twenty teams that will advance to the region's Regional Major Ranking event, where they will join the European teams from PGL Major Antwerp's Legends Stage to battle for spots in Rio. All matches will be best-of-one single-elimination with the exception of the qualifying round, which will be best-of-three.
The same format will be followed in North America, where two teams from each of the three open qualifiers will earn spots at the Americas RMR. The South American equivalent meanwhile will grant a total of seven spots: the first two open qualifiers will see two teams each qualify, and the third and final one will grant three spots, with the complete field joining Liquid, FURIA, and Imperial at the RMR.
The qualifiers in Asia, Oceania, China, and the Middle East will follow a different format, with each region having two open qualifiers lead into a four-team double-elimination closed qualifier. The winners from each region will advance to one larger Asia RMR, with two teams making it through to Rio.
