MOUZ NXT out of contention as WePlay Academy League Season 5 reaches play-in

The four-time Academy League champions are not among the names left standing as the league nears playoffs.

Season 5 of WePlay's Academy League has reached the end of its group stage, seeing six teams sent packing from the tournament while fnatic Rising and BIG Academy secured spots in the playoffs by topping their respective groups.

BIG Academy had by far the most dominant run through the early stage of the tournament, dropping just one best-of-one match to Young Ninjas while often beating their opponents in dominant fashion to secure their berth. fnatic Rising, meanwhile, had a harder time of things in what ended up being the closer group, managing to edge into first place with an 8-4 record following a crucial win over NAVI Junior.

BIG Academy were dominant in the group stage

The six teams that weren't eliminated — the second to fourth place ones from each group — will now head to the play-in, where they will battle for the other two spots in the playoffs. For that, NAVI Junior and Young Ninjas will start in round 2 of the bracket as a result of finishing in second in their groups, while FURIA Academy, Astralis Talent, Spirit Academy, and OG Academy will face off in round 1 in hopes of playing against the second place teams for a spot in the playoffs.

Here are the final standings from the group stage:

The most shocking of the teams not to make it through to the next round is MOUZ NXT, who hold the title from the previous four seasons but won't be able to defend it for a fifth time, having won just half of their matches in the group stage to end their run just shy of play-in contention in fifth place.

The Kamil "siuhy" Szkaradek-led side will instead have to watch from the sidelines as the previous grand finalists from BIG Academy gear up in hopes of making a repeat run, with the bracket stage set to commence on Friday at 15:00 .

Before that though, the play-in matches will take place, the draw and schedule for which can be found below:

Tuesday, August 9
15:00 Brazil FURIA Academy vs. Denmark Astralis Talent
18:00 Russia Spirit Academy vs. Europe OG Academy

Wednesday, August 10
15:00 Ukraine NAVI Junior vs. FURIA Academy/Astralis Talent
18:00 Sweden Young Ninjas vs. Spirit Academy/OG Academy

you might want to check Mouz Nxt player stats from this season if you think jimpphat was the reason they didn't make the playoffs.

Yeah the 15-year old who's been in the team for 4 months is to blame here
2022-08-07 23:58
lol the guy is the youngest player in any top 200 team, and is playing in a top 30-40 team, his first international team. the last time i remember that happening was his brother sergej who played in HAVU at the age of 15 and later reached the major final with ENCE at 16. the guy is obviously talented, give him a break man...
2022-08-08 03:58
Well. Spirit and NaVi got WO's against Eternal Fire while MOUZ played two matches against them which isn't entiraly fair imo

when you win 4 of the first 4 WePlay events, it would be really easy to get into that "we're going to win, so lets just skip a day of practice here and there" mentality. they got complacent by the looks of it, and paid the price. lets see how they do in season 6 to find out if they learnt their lesson.

okay? he lead different rosters to 4 WAL titles in a row, is sick individually, is a promising young IGL with perfect english - not like there are lots of those out there. The main team played TWO playoff matches - outside of the fluke online run at Flashpoint 3 - at tier 1 events since dexter joined 18 months ago. EPL Season 14 & Cologne recently. promote for what? To not lose one of the most promising young IGLs to some other org and finally change something in MOUZ after 18 months of no results at all.

lmao, i'm stupid as fuck, brain fail for some reason my brain made me think the discussion was about siuhy suddenly. MOUZ should promote both, xertioN played a big role with calling in NXT (mid-round/2nd calling), you should promote them together, give them time to adapt and you'll earn the fruits in 6 months plus.

it is literally a academy team it doesnt matter if he was 123x better, the whole purpose is to DEVELOP young players jdc is 22yo who has been pro since 2017 ofc he will have more value in the team than a 15yo kid who is playing in his first international team

2022-08-09 09:33
well obviously JDC is currently miles ahead, this guy is the youngest player in any top 200 team, only 15. the purpose for this academy league is to develop these players into stars, and jimpphat probably has the most potential out of all of these players, who plays in a top 30-40 team at the age of 15, shits crazy. last time i remember a 15 year old playing in a top 30 was his brother sergej.

NO TORZSI NO PARTY :)
2022-08-08 08:53
Very unlucky season for Mouz NXT, there were so many games were they lost by such a small margin. And that last Spirit vs fnatic match, damn. However, team like this shouldn't be going 6-6 in an academy league against guys with much lower experience and skill level. Talking about the promotion, it's already definitely too late. The first, original Mouz NXT was the best lineup of all time, they were almost unbeatable, they had a real chance to become 2nd Gambit Youngsters. This team with torzsi and JDC had also 1 very important factor: they had an amazing team chemistry. As a whole they looked like such a well oiled machine. Even if 1 player wasn't fragging that well on 1 map, he could be a top fragger on the 2nd one. I'm not saying that either mhL or jimmphat are bad, they are actually good individually, but team as a unit definitely lacks something. I said that before, removing torzsi from academy team was Mouz' biggest fault, where they should have promoted the whole team to at least give them a chance to prove themselves on a t1 scene. That move only destroyed that great chemistry and even if torzsi is doing well in main squad, I would really like to see how he would perform in the team with his former teammates.

3-16 and 9-16 mosses to fnatic, not close. 8-16 loss to prospects, not close. 12-16 loss to EF, not really close either 13-16 loss to Navi, could argue for close, but considering they won the other match vs Navi with even smaller margin it a bit silly to bring up. 14-16 to Astralis, this is close. So out of 6 losses, 3 where big, one was decent, one pretty close and one(!) was close. “ there were so many games were they lost by such a small margin.” Rather the excuse the guy made that was dumb!

they won s4 with this lineup, idk why people keep hating. they won all previous seasons without breaking a sweat. now they played one bad season and dropped out early, so what? its not a problem unless this perfomance persists
