The tournament will once again feature 24 teams including the top 15 squads in the world according to HLTV's world rankings, with Heroic competing as a partner team for the first time after having previously signed the Louvre Agreement with organizers ESL.

FaZe head into EPL as the defending champions

Group A features four top-15 teams in Natus Vincere, Ninjas in Pyjamas, Vitality, and Spirit all vying for a spot in the playoffs as their group will be in action from August 31-September 4. Group B will be competing next from September 7-11, showcasing the world's best team FaZe and other established competitors such as G2 and BIG.

Group C will have the two best Danish teams Astralis and Heroic, along with EPL Season 15 runners-up ENCE battling it out from September 14-18. Finally, Group D will play out from September 21-25, where the likes of Liquid and Cloud9 will be gunning for a spot in the following round.

After the group stage concludes, the second and third-best teams of each will play against one another in the round of 12, before moving on to the quarter-finals where the top team of each of the four groups await them. From there, the winners will move on to the semi-finals and eventually, the best-of-five grand final to crown the champion of the 16th Pro League season.

The four groups for EPL Season 16 are as follows:

C9, LIQUID and FURIA are the clear favorites of group D. Rideres don't have Sunpayus so that's gonna impact them alot. Them and EF are the wildcard teams id say. EG is gonna be dead last. Looks balanced based on the fact 3 teams qualify for the next stage

bro, the team is good on paper and there isn't a single player on the team that is bad individually. what i'm worried about is the fact that mezii is the igl. also, FASHR and roej are both entry so there's probably gonna be role clash unless they make mezii igl + lurker

First, EG just changed their roster so you really can’t judge them yet, second, EG is a partner team who was just under review. The reason they are still here is because a big part of the review is wether or not the org is helping the scene, and with the blueprint project EG signed two or orgless teams, which showed interest in the scene

Their slot could be taken by promising tier 2 EU team but ESL would rather feed us with bullshit about review process when in fact its all about money

Sure it’s about money, cs is a business after all, but EG is also one of only 3 orgs investing in NA right now, so removing them from a tier one event could lead to them leaving, and I don’t want that, and I’m sure it would hurt the scene. Conference gives 6 spots to promising EU teams and then there’s 3 from the world ranking. If they don’t make it from that, they really aren’t that promising of an EU team who deserve it more when they will also just go 0-5, the only difference being that they are EU and not NA

I get your point about helping NA scene butlooking retrospective, did it? Not at all, they would help the scene more by doing more events in NA, not continually occupy the last place in one of the biggest events in a year

It’s still too early to tell if it helped to be honest. It gave 10 orgless players the ability to play the game full time with the resources to help them prosper. Sure it would be great to see more events in NA, but relog media is making a league for NA so that should help the scene a lot. Getting last means a want to improve right? If things don’t work the team if more likely to promote a young talent form the other rosters, look at hext, he wouldn’t be their if they were making playoffs. It’s a mixed bag, but overall I believe it is better for EG to be in the scene and be a partner team then it would be if they left

Im okay with your take but personally I would still rather see one more european tier2 team instead. EU scene is doing great but not all teams are having the opportunities to play on that level even if they are more capable than EG. Should ESL help the weaker region rather than the up and coming tier 2 EU team that is also showing promises and will win against EG 9/10 times? I’d say no, you’d say yes, its okay to have different opinion on this, I am just mad at fixating the scene so much. I’ve myself played some open and closed qualifiers to bigger events and I know how hard it is to get through EU qualifiers, everyone grind and train so much and it really infuriate me when I see teams that put almost no effort (at least looking at the results so far) getting invites everywhere

I understand your point to. It’s better for competition to have better teams competing. In the end though it’s better in the long run to have more scene’s right? It’s a deeper talent pool that helps the sport last longer. Would a team like Entrpoq for example have more of a chance at winning then EG? Sure. But if EG doesn’t have that spot they disband and NA loses one of The only 3 organizations that we have. I have some bias here cause I’m American sure, but what it EG’s blueprint project works? It widens the talent pool of the sport. EU teams may end up buying players from EG’s other teams in the future, you never know.
