Liquid confirm YEKINDAR for BLAST Premier Fall Groups

The Latvian star still has yet to sign for Liquid permanently, but he will play his second event with the team.

Liquid have confirmed to HLTV.org that they will play with Mareks "YEKINDAR" Gaļinskis once again at the BLAST Premier Fall Groups.

The 22-year-old Latvian will make his second appearance with the team following an impressive debut that saw the North American side reach the quarter-finals of IEM Cologne in July, making their highest big-event placing since they underwent core changes at the beginning of the year.

YEKINDAR will continue to don the Liquid jersey at BLAST

The organization and the players have made no secret of their plans to pursue signing YEKINDAR permanently, repeatedly praising the ever-aggressive rifler while in Cologne for having a big voice on the team already and for his contributions to the team's improvement.

However, so far there has been no news of a permanent deal having been struck between Liquid and Virtus.pro, where YEKINDAR is currently listed for transfer following his exit from the Russian-based team in late May.

The Latvian star has nonetheless been allowed to step in for Liquid once more at BLAST, which will be the first tier-one event following the summer tournament break, taking place from August 19-28.

In the first stage of the event, Nick "nitr0" Cannella and company have been placed in Group B alongside G2, Natus Vincere, and Complexity. Liquid will first face off against the new-look G2 squad, who are reportedly bringing in Justin "jks" Savage and Rasmus "HooXi" Nielsen, on August 20.

YEKINDAR should have gone to G2 and jks to Liquid it's a better fit IMO.

I don’t think so. Yekindar is Stewie2k but better, and free EliGE from entry roles. JKS can’t do that

+1 Liquid needs another aggressive player, not another passive one. NAF and oSee are passive and Elige is a naturally passive player turned aggressive but in this current metagame you need aggro players to make plays. This is why Yekindar is best fit
2022-08-12 01:07
4 replies
EliGE has always been a natural Entry Fragger and plays the aggressive roles most of his career. He is just too valuable to play entry and is better suited to the NiKo/Spinx 'Opening Kill' star role. Yes, Yeki's aggression is wanted however it really allows Nitr0 to dial back his aggression, as Nitr0 is a natural late round player like NAF. oSee has shown he can do that Broky style role of passive AWP with explosive mid-late rounds too.

You're right, I stand corrected. He was an entry fragger in the beginning of Liquid which I totally forgot about. I agree with you that he's too valuable to play entry as he's good for multi-fragging capabilities. Although personally, I love seeing the dynamic between Yeki/Elige playing aggro. The most underrated part in all of this is the fact that Yeki can secondary/mid-round call which piggy-backs off your point that he can take pressure off of Nitr0. Yeki's role reminds me so much of Stewie when he first joined Liquid, which is why I always felt he was the perfect fit for the team.
2022-08-14 08:42

Yeah between Daps and Yeki, Nitr0 can concentrate on bringing his own game up to par. He used to be so clutch and before being forced to AWP was an up n coming aggressive star rifler. If Cologne is anything to go by Nitr0 already improved with the help. I have a lot of time for daps, especially in the preparation/veto side of the game but also in leadership on the stage.

Daps is gonna be good on this team. I've seen many of his interviews where he seems very intellectual and strategic with how he thinks of the game. I liked adreN but I've heard many rumors about him not being very involved with strat calling. His coaching was more loose and he usually let's the team "figure it out" when push comes to shove. The thing that frustrated me most with adreN was he did not utilize timeouts very effectively. Daps, from what I've seen so far, has done pretty well in that department. His approach to the game also seems very professional whereas adreN has always been pretty lax from an outsider's perspective.

Jks to liquid never made sense
2022-08-11 18:11
Not at all, yekindar is a much better fit for liquid and if hunter wants to play in the pack jks is a better fit for G2. Yekindar wants to decide what he and the team will do, in G2 he propably wouldnt even be the 3rd voice. G2 might need a true entry fragger though but for yekindar, jks and liquid these 2 were the best moves, for G2 its arguable

Jks is a lifelong lurker. Liquid already have naf lurking. Hunter didn’t want to lurk anymore. G2 also has Niko who’s been entrying more often than jackz since august last year. They don’t need another entry. Liquid doesn’t have an entry, and Elige doesn’t fill the role well.

depends on how long his contact is with them I guess
2022-08-11 18:19
But they are probably paying VP to loan him in the time being, maybe they think it’s better for press if there are no contract buyouts and just small sums but either way they are paying money into russia
2022-08-11 20:22
3 replies
or maybe he didnt decide yet if he will join and liquid cant afford to tell him join or gtfo, they need him so much. He helped them become a solid top 10 team in just one tournament, a team that can beat almost anyone whereas before they really sucked Edit: or his buyout is so high that they want to wait for his contract to run out (if it does soon)/ negotiate more
2022-08-11 21:17
2 replies
Yeah I can see that, either on his or their side negotiating endlessly.. but so much of this situation screams to me trying to avoid negative kremlin PR. I dont care personally but western orgs are doing this flaky shit where they say fuck russia but will gladly give them money for players etc like c9 did
2022-08-12 22:23
1 reply
Agreed, the sanctions are pretty much a joke and easily worked around. The CIS orgs are notorious for having ridiculously large buyouts, this is why NaVi could never manage to snag up n coming Russian language players and had to build their own.
2022-08-13 19:37
He doesn’t really fit into any other team as well as liquid. His play style is literally perfect for the squad and the roles match up exactly with what you want to get.
