Asia RMR team list finalized

Rare Atom, IHC, JiJieHao International, and ORDER will battle it out for two spots at the IEM Rio Major Challengers Stage.

The closed qualifiers for the Asia, China, Middle East, and Oceania regions have concluded. One team per region was awarded a spot at the IEM Road to Rio Asia RMR, which will run from October 7-9. From there, only two will progress out of the RMR and make it to the IEM Rio Major in November.

In the China Closed Qualifier, Rare Atom didn't have the most straightforward of campaigns as the team fell to the lower bracket following their upper final defeat to Lynn Vision. The team toppled Wings Up in the consolidation final and set up a rematch with Heng "expro" Yang's squad in the grand final. This time around, Rare Atom fared better and took home a decisive 2-0 series victory against Lynn Vision to claim their spot at the RMR.

The result of the China qualifier means that TYLOO, who lost to Lynn Vision and Wings Up, will miss the Minor or RMR stage of the Major cycle for the first time since 2016. Back then, they were not able to attend the Asia Minor after it was revealed that their player, Quanqing "qz" Wu, received a VAC ban in 2013.

Can IHC reach back-to-back Majors?

IHC secured the top spot in the Asia Closed Qualifier to book their second RMR appearance in history. Garidmagnai "bLitz" Byambasuren's crew reached the qualifier's grand final after defeating NKT 2-0, but Erdenetsogt "erkaSt" Gantulga's men made their way to the final after defeating ARAVT in the lower bracket. Even though NKT took the first map, bLitz and company were able to pull off the reverse-sweep after winning 16-14 on Dust2 and Overpass to clinch the RMR spot.

Russian-Israeli side JiJieHao International, which only came together in mid-August, emerged victorious at the Middle East Closed Qualifier to earn their place at the Asia RMR. In all three of their matches, JiJieHao International found themselves down a map but were able to turn things around and complete reverse-sweep wins, first over JPB in the opening round and then NASR in the upper and grand final.

Finally, ORDER topped the Oceania Closed Qualifier to earn a spot at the Asia RMR. Veterans Aaron "AZR" Ward and Sean "Gratisfaction" Kaiwai were standing in for Encore in hopes of boosting the team's chances, but it ultimately wasn't enough as ORDER triumphed in the deciding match and claimed their spot at the RMR.

The four teams competing at the IEM Road to Rio Asia RMR is as follows:

Yeah Prokda boi is right. It is too late try to develop something in dead scene. All teams from Asian scene except China and Mongolia transferred to Valorant look at Paper Rex, look at old Bren esports, Scarz absolute, whole korean scene look at Xeta. Like there is noone no competition. But these Mongolians and Chinese are keeping the scene also NKT but now they are mongolian team so yeah. Respect to Mongolia for keeping the scene alive. Cheering for them in RMRs

China pretty much moving as well. Game hasn’t event released in China yet and still. liquipedia.net/valorant/FGC_Valorant_Inv.. Also, Edward Gaming made it to Champions. So, that’ll be pretty big for the scene there. But, China will still have a presence in CSGO im sure.

This should be an 8 team RMR, given the amount of the world that this covers and amount of motivation it diminishes for the rest of the region knowing that only 1 team will even make it to this stage is really discouraging. Have 2 from each at least!

The point is those big euro teams aren’t beatable for asia That’s why we need to increase the level domestically before having multiple teams go to the major This can be done by cutting down to 1 slot. More competition, teams have an incentive to get good.

In my opinion, losing the Asia RMR and coming 2nd doesn’t deserve a major spot. Realistically there are at least 30 European teams that would be better.

Yeah but how do you expect the scene to develop with only 1 spot? better to just make the whole CS scene an european one and kill.the rest then, plus its not like the "30 european teams that are better" made through their qualifiers anyway (i mean cmon Aurora? Benched Heroes? lmao)

They need to develop within the scene before going against Europe. Two spots means you have a sub par team qualifying as well, one that isn’t even the best in APAC. How would they learn from playing in the major? Just fly there, get smashed, and go home. Having only one spot would increase the competition. One less APAC spot means one more of those Europeans going to the major btw. And all would do better than the 2nd APAC team.

because they get practice against european teams and serves as motivation to grow even further rather than just being stuck in their own region. Imagine being a team from SEA or even AU and knowing that you have 0,05% chance of making to the biggest tournaments because theres only one spot available? (Like most of the tournaments already) Whats the motivation? Its not like they can go international either so its better to just go to Valorant or something to get something worth fighting for

Yea its really weird, how can a region become better if you don't support it and give it a light at the end of the tunnel. If they know they are worth nothing to anyone and can't get practice they wouldn't even try unless they will fly over to Europe for that and leave it all behind...

Now, I know Valve will remain open circuit but, compare that to what Riot is doing. valorantesports.com/news/introducing-the.. Domestic Leagues, promotion to international leagues, six figure stipend for teams in pro like… Valve can do more then 4 teams in a qualifier for 2 entire regions. One being as gigantic as Asia.

so? the point is to make it a bit easier for the other less capable regions to participate, that way they can improve and create more competitive showings and help the pro scene grow even more with more vriaty. also you can see lately as an example that Israeli players start entering T1/T2 teams. Thats without any help, imagine if there was help what could happen

The teams we’re talking about qualifying to that 2nd spot are awful. Again, to benefit they need to be good within Asia first. Otherwise it’s just a total stomping and u can’t learn. Having only one spot would make the competition greater. Then teams would have a real incentive to improve, and the level coming to Europe from Asia would also be better. That’s when teams can learn as well As for Spinx and flameZ, if anything they’re examples of how u don’t need 2 major spots for Asia. They prove if u get good enough then anything is possible. And that’s how it should be for asia too.

Again, how is losing 32-5 or 16-2 useful? It’s just not. The jump is too big. That’s why only the best can go from Asia to Europe. Edit - at the very least, surely u want to see better competition?

2022-08-29 12:05

2022-08-29 12:07
Wish Valve/ESL or whoever is responsible would make the Middle East spot a bit more strict because in its current state it's often just a proxy-Europe qualifier. I have nothing against Israeli CS at all but even though it's geographically in the middle east, in terms of online CS it's undoubtedly European. Would love to see teams coming through that qualifier who actually aren't able to play in the EU region due to distance/internet, which is the intention of the qualifier.
2022-08-29 12:09

I understand what you are saying, but what that means is that also all the Arab countries around Israel can't show up for ME qualifier. Think about it: Jordan, Lebanon, Syria(if you can play from there these days idk) and all thise that are close to Israel will have to play in Europe qualifiers too. When i play Faceit if those guys from arab countries around play too we meet sometimes so they also will count as European. That all of a sudden leaves you with not much contenders, the ME qualifier will be either almost empty or just filled with even more random teams than it already is....

That's true - I haven't really thought it through in great detail tbh, but it wouldn't be such a problem if Valve just gave the whole of Asia more spots, like doubling it to 8 so each region gets 2 or something

If one asian team makes it to the legend stage, their major slots will increase to 3 and their rmr event will increase to 8 teams. Could this already be 8 teams rmr, maybe. But it will be that much more significant when some asian team actually makes it to top16 of major.

I wonder what Asian teams need to achieve to get more teams in RMR. so sad for only 4 RMR teams
