TeamOne, Infinity secure final IEM Rio Americas RMR spots

The 16 Americas teams who will compete for six spots at the IEM Rio Major are now set.

The last open qualifier for the IEM Road to Rio Americas RMR has concluded, with TeamOne and Infinity earning the final two spots to complete the list of attendees for the event.

Pedro "Maluk3" Campos' troops were the first to advance, making up for their narrow loss to Evil Geniuses in the previous qualifier. The Brazilian side advanced through their best-of-one matches with wins over Vendetta and Unjustified to set up a series against BHOP, a match which they made quick work of thanks to stellar performances from Mario "malbsMd" Samayoa and Maluk3 on Ancient and Inferno.

malbsMd may have the chance to take on his former team at the RMR

Infinity became the final team to qualify following wins over Mythic, timbermen and a series victory over mix-team Pete's Hookah Lounge, a lineup that included former Bad News Bears trio Peter "ptr" Gurney, Alan "Shakezullah" Hardeman, and Gabe "Spongey" Greiner. The South American side had little issue in dispatching of ptr and company on Overpass, but struggled more on Dust2, a map which they came back from a 6-11 deficit to win.

With the last qualifier at an end, the 16 teams who will travel to Stockholm, Sweden to compete for a chance to make it to the IEM Rio Major have been set. The squads will clash from October 5-9 to determine the six representatives from the region that will compete in Brazil, with the home teams having a solid shot at dominating the list as just four North American sides will be in attendance.

Hen1 is hit or miss imo. He didnt look super tight. I think even hallzerk > hen1. But Imperial is more solid that's for sure. Fnx looked rusty as f. Also, ppl overlooked col because they only play t1 event. Mibr won't win rn a game against t1. So col can make it.

Team One has been living in the US for the last 4 years, they always have played the NA qualifiers or tournaments Infinity have also been playing in NA for quite some time, but they are not in the US. For this final RMR qualifier they traveled to Mexico or the US I think, that's why they did so good, they finally had good ping.

Gaules has direct contact with Valve and he said on his stream that regardless of nationality, anyone from any country in the world can play in the NA Qualifier as long as they were residing in the country (Mexico, Canada, USA) or competed in some NA events (Team One case), but they would have to send a request asking for participation to Valve. Example: If you are a European living in the USA and you have 4 European friends living in the USA, you 5 can try to get the spot in the NA Qualifier but you will have to prove that you are residing in the USA

Funny because i had someone cite the new updated rule that says they will not be making exceptions for prolonged residents, but instead based solely off Nationality + Citizenship. Guess they still make those exceptions anyways like i thought.

that wouldn't make sense at all, there's teams like ATK with 1 EU, 2 NA and 2 African players they would not be able to compete

The rules actually state that teams with an equal number of players with a mixed roster can choose where to compete, ei a 2-2-1 can choose either of the 2's nationality.
2022-09-06 00:19
its stupid, the best brazilian teams move to NA and get spots through our qualifier, meanwhile all the bad SA teams get spots through their qualifier. no hate to any of the teams themselves but the system isnt working right

It was the other way around. Team one is the only BR team that qualified thru NA quals. SA qualifiers were packed with good team, with some good orgs out as the competition was fierce and i dont think teamOne would qualify there.
2022-09-06 01:47
And these teams r playing rmr while asia has only 4 slot (1wasted, 1oc). Tyloo, NKT, Wings Up, Lynn vision will eat these bots.

Any team can struggle and even lose against any team, that's not the point and you know that. The facts are: Asian teams were never better than SA teams and SA teams are actually better now, how his statement makes any sense? it's actually going back to 2016/17 when EU and Brazilian teams were the best since CIS is doing worse now.

It is tough to measure if we never gave them a big chance to compete more among the other regions. Especially if you say, that anyone can upset any team. There is absolutely no need to deny, that Asia got a lot of talent, which needs the support! Meanwhile we got some full SA team and a weird ass mix of SA who compete on NA qualifiers, which is an absolute joke.
